Hi guys, I thought I´d do a little poll. I´m running a death guard vectorium with a chaos warband, thought I´d check what dakka usually picks in the elite slot of their warband.

Chosen with Plasma. You have Relentless, shoot plasma and charge.

Yea, Termies go into the TAF and possessed, if at all, go into a favoured formation. Chosen are just fine for objectives and you could always opt for a an ObSec dreadclaw.

Hm, never really thought about the fact that Chosen aren't available anywhere else in the formations. Although Termicide is cheaper overall.

Terminators with axes and combis is the best choice. you can go multi units of 3 or 5 and are quite powerful with all the DG buffs and very point efficient.

Well, I suppose if you don't want to bring enough termies to benefit from the annihilation force then you could also take them in a warband . I just find that you already have a quite a few ObSec units if you're bringing the warband and you get more out of the TAF at that point for termies. Especially with DG who are tough enough to actually assault after firing and thus benefit from the hatred part.

I'm sorry, what is TAF?

Also, can you bring termies in a drop pod in the warband?

The Terminator annihilation force. Three units of terminators plus a lord or sorcerer in (free) terminator armour. You get to shoot twice on deepstriking and they gain hatred vs a chosen unit (which updates as you go)

And no to the drop pod. At least not unless you also bring a CAD with a either a fast attack claw or a kharibdys, they fit in both iirc. You can buy claws for other units but you can't start a termies in them because they are dedicated.

Sounds like a nice auxiliary, but if you want termites in the warband like they have to footslog.. sounds pretty gak to me.

How so? They can deepstrike normally in the warband. Emphasis on normal though since the TAF get to shoot once in the movement phase, which is better.

Thez get ObSec but imo that kind of gets in the way of what you want a termicide to do. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have, but more often than not you're going to want to deppstrike in such manner as to kill a tank or hit a unit hard. With zero guarantee that that happens to be close to an objective you can also land at while hitting them.
So you're forced to decide between getting an objective or killing a unit. ObSec isn't really going to matter all that often on termicide units.

It would make more sense to give them a land raider in that case...but even with ObSec I find it a hard sell. That's a ton of points just to hunt Objectives. So ya, better to stick to what they do best and then do it a little bit better with the TAF.

Sorry, I'm a dummy. Of course they can DS.. I just didn't see the special rule when I looked opp chaos terminators. but everyone in terminator armour can DS.

A unit of terminators might be better for my army than my usual 4 melta chosen and a champ in a rhino tac. Especially since I'm trying out a cheap infiltrating Alfa legion CAD with aegis defence line and comms relay for my mayhem pack and heldrakes. Then again I already have a mayhem pack to fill the role of DSing in to take out the same kind of threats the terminators are for.

I play World Eaters and usually kit my Chosen with 3 Meltas then stick them in a Dreadclaw. They've worked well and you can jink until turn 2 to keep the drop pod alive if need be. After that I'll move it close to where they need to be, get out, shoot, then assault that same turn.

Probably termies. Chosen with full-priced gear are pretty overcosted for what they do. They also need transports further inflating the cost of a mediocre unit. Termies can at least be mediocre for cheaper. 3 with axes and combi-plaz are my pick.
