Subject: Getting back to the game. Eldar tips.

Hi everyone.
I have been off the game for a while (2 years or so) and looking back into it. I don´t play as much as I use to, so I will be looking into focusing into just 2 armies, Eldar and everything Chaos related.
I have an elder army (amongst others) for which I used to have some tau allies (riptides and broadsides) but was maybe looking into selling them.
Do you guys think Eldar need Tau allied to be competitive? or can they do themselves/Ynary?
I have seen the only elder army on the top 8 on LV open was using a riptide wing, so I don´t know if I should keep them or what to do.
Thanks

Eldar don't need any allies to be competitive.

I was only asking because that list from LV open had 3 riptides, so I don´t know if something like that it is actually needed.
Are Ynari up to level with Eldar?

Before selling, you should go start playing with only what you anticipate keeping. From there you can determine whether you'd regret selling your other models/armies.

Agree on that but eldar ha salways been my main army with chaos, so that I know I want to keep. I love how eldar play, and the variety on chaos.
My grey knights, don't see myself playing them anymore, nor my BA.
The tau was just a small allied detachment, but if eldar can farewell fine with out them, rather get rid of some stuff

Eldar are perfectly fine without Tau, even at the highest competitive level. The Ynnari supplement only made them better. The reason why Eldar haven't placed super well at top tables is actually BECAUSE they are so good.
Let me explain that statement: imagine you are going to a big tournament and you want to try and place very well. You need to make sure that your list has tools to handle the top armies that you are likely to face. For example, what if you run into an imperial knights army? Most, if not all, top table armies have an answer to that question.
Similarly, since there are a LOT of Eldar and Space Marine players, the very best players know that they NEED to be able to beat those two armies; otherwise they probably won't be in the top 8 at the end of the second day. It's really just a numbers game.
Worth pointing out also that there hasn't been a big GT since the Ynnari came out. I do expect a Reborn Warhost (the new detachment from that book) to place in the top 8. You can keep your Tau if you want options or just sell them; it'll have no significant bearing on your ability to win games.

Thanks for this luke.
I will never be at a top table of a tournament anymore as I don't have that much time to play as I used to, plus I'm quite out of 40k right now, but your explanation got everything I needed. I only had them because with the last Eldar codex (pre CE) it was quite handy to have them around, but if they are not needed anymore I pretty much like the idea of just Eldar or maybe the new ynary.
Since I'm asking for help here, I might as well mention it here isntead of creating a new topic. Between the vanilla WK and the FW WK, which ones comes out on top?
Also, which main weapons and secondary weapons are best on each of them?
We will see and thanks.

On a straight up comparison, I believe the FW WK is better. One thing to keep in mind is that you cannot take the FW WK in a Ynnari detachment. So you are stuck with the vanilla WK if you go the Ynnari route.
As for the weapons for the FW WK. It all depends on the rest of your army. If you have plenty of AT then go with the template and if you have plenty of anti-infantry go with the meltas.
