I am curious what you all use in the Castellans of the Imperium as troops choices? What do you find more optimal with Good ol' Coteaz as one of the HQ making everyone in the detachment Obsec? Here are my thoughts.

Options...
Tactical Squads - Mediocre units as it is, really more for the gladius with free transports. When they revive they have to start foot slogging as they wont come with their drop pod or rhino/razorback. Reviving razorbacks can be fun... again would just rather take Gladius

Scouts - I can see these guys being really good. Infiltrate these guys up the board and use them in their various roles as goood speed bumps, during cover huggers, or sittin with a missile launcher/heavy bolter... then reviving. If they revive they can outflank back into position.

Crusader Squads - Reviving Landraider dedicated transports is cool. otherwise again these guys are like tac marines and reviving to foot slog.

Infantry Platoon - the endless bodies. What I think this detachment is made for, but not necessarily the best. Also... that is a lot of bodies. Maybe 1 platoon with others using the other spots. units are cheap enough that yuo dont really care if they get back in the fight and can hold an objective. This

Veterans - Same issue as Tactical marines, when they revive you want them in the fight but need to foot slog to get there.

Dedicated transport chimera - Still overpriced, and if not moving bodies then meh?

Battle sister Squad - again, space marines with less toughness... can't get back into the fight where you want them.

Militarum Tempestus Scions from Codex (MT) - I think these could be the top contender for this. These guys kind of want to play aggressive with their short range guns and their orders. But what gives them the edge is deepstrike. They could revive to deploy aggressively again or deepstrike to the location you need them to hold.

Crusader Squad (i don't have any anyway)
Tactical Marine
Sisters

Also, the supplement does spell out what qualifies as the troop slot and it doesn't say marines on bikes if biker captain was taken. Can marines on bikes be taken as a troop in this detachment? that would change those rankings as some white scars bike spam would be baller with this detachment.

How do you feel about this detachment? Do you feel there is a way to make this detachment competitive?

Can it though? Every FAQ has said if you take a formation you have to take what the formation specifies. Bikes are not specified.

The bikes come back like all other troops but would not count as troops choices in the formation.

Scouts imo because then you can spam Storms. In 1 Castellans formation with 4 minimum scout troops you can take 20 scouts and 10 Storms, with say 4 multimeltas and 6 assault cannons for around 750 points. 14 fast OS units with Coatez as well!

Just came up with a list I would consider competitive, not got the dexes on me atm and am going from memory. The two points cost I am not 100% on is the assault cannon upgrade on a storm, I have put it at 15pts but may have been 20 and the grav cents with omniscope which I seem to remember as being 270pts. If a few points out drop the combi-meltas and/mbs.

Yes. There hasn't been an FAQ for this book, but the closest thing is from the Fracture of Biel Tan FAQ which states that you can take Trueborn and Bloodbrides as Elites.

But the castellans of the imperium is not a formation, its a detachment

With henchmen being elites, are they the most effective use of points? Do love all the long range fire power in this list too

Only the scouts themselves are ObSec, Coteaz only grants non vehicle units the rule.
