So I'd been thinking of creating a mini death star based around a Death Guard Cult of Destruction with 3 Oblits and a Warpsmith in 1 unit transported by a Dreadclaw (Dreadclaw in a CAD obvs). The unit is by default designed to both assault and be very shooty since they shoot twice a turn. The claw would arrive turn 1 and after it's turbo boost, the unit would be in position to disembark and delete pretty much anything on turn 2. Afterwards it would have the positioning, firepower, durability and assault threat to be a pain to the opponent.
There are two rules that really mess it up though. The first rule is Daemonic Possession of the Dreadclaw meaning there is a 1/6 chance that it will eat an expensive model before the game even begins. The second is the Champion of Chaos rule meaning the Warpsmith will get involved in challenges he really doesn't want to be in when the unit relies to some extent on his special rule.
The way around this would to be to include a sorcerer in the unit (with a relic vehicle in the army) to deny the possession role, this is when it starts to become a star. That bit is easy enough to get round. The challenge part isn't though. For the Sorc to be worth his points he will need a decent damage output, hence requiring the Burning Brand and at least lvl2 to access Psychic Shriek. He would then be the challenge maker. But at that many points you really don't want to lose him, so would probably be a good idea to include a Parlaquin and a Sigil of Corruption. But along with the pretty much compulsory spell familiar you are talking 210pts (235 at ml3). For a model that is simply there primarily to ignore the possession rolls and take challenges... adding a considerable amount to the units cost.
The other way around this is to take a Sorc with lvl2 for shriek, the Burning Brand and a spell familiar along with Typhus to really add immense threat to the unit, and have a very good challenge maker. But at this point you are talking over 800pts, and the durability of the unit has dramatically decreased for the points it costs.
I can't seem to think of a cost effective way to get around this. In the past, I'd have just slammed Abbadon in there and been done with it but since he can no longer start in that particular Dreadclaw that's out the window. There is always the option of doing the unit as a BL unit but then you lose FnP, which is a big draw of the unit.
Is it worth just saying 'screw it' and accepting the 1/6 risk (1/24 of it being the Warpsmith) you think? Then just make sure the initial assault is away from a challenge monster? Id do exactly that if I could take 4 Oblits in a unit to mitigate the risk but you can't, and losing 1/3 of the firepower and assault potential (not Inc the Warpsmith) is huge.
Can you see a way around it?

Unfortunately that would sacrifice the fnp, T5, and the pretty much auto charge whatever I want to on turn 2. The turbo boost of the Dreadclaw enables them to shoot at, then charge whatever they pick on Turn 2.

Been thinking of sacrificing the FnP and changing them to BL with MoN. Then putting in Abaddon and a Sorc with last memory of Yuranthos and Psychic Shriek in there and giving the Warpsmith the Burning Brand. Now the unit has ridiculous firepower and assault threats. Although it will have lost FnP. BAck that up with allied renegade Spawn, a couple of Deepstriking Termicide units and a Knight with Death of Kaser Lutien to help the Last Memory rolls. Finish off with Renegade artillery for a threat overload list. Might work.
