Is it worth it to make a Sybarite or just keep the squad lean with Kabalite with a Special Weapon and 9 Kabalite Warriors?

Edit: Just curious if a Kabalite with Heavy Weapon is worth it as that model could only snapshot when the squad moves.

Thanks

SG

I wouldn't bother with one.

I think if you're getting to the point where the benefits of having one would come into play, then it has probably gone horribly wrong somewhere...

If you're running full squads of 10 in Raiders with Splinter Racks, Sybarites are not worth it, but a Kabalite with a splinter cannon might be. If you're running squads of 5 in a Venom, then a Sybarite with Haywire Grenade might be worth it, maybe. But in the general case, no - too much cost for the benefit.

It'd be a full squad of 10 in a Raider.

Thanks

I asked this very question myself this one day on the train, and wrote myself this table comparing the two. (See below)

Raider ------------ 2 Venom
Base Shots
36 inches – 6 shots 24 shots
24 inches—16 shots 34 shots
12 inches—26 shots 39 shots

Shots Landed (Factoring for twin linked)
36 inches – 5 shots 16 shots
24 inches – 14 shots 22 shots
12 inches – 23 shots 26 shots

Wounds/Hull Points
3 HP / 10 wounds 4HP/10 wounds

Save
3+ Cover When Jinking 4+ Cover when jinking and 5+ invuln
(maintains all shots while jinking) (loses 24 shots while jinking)

Points
180 210

So interestingly enough the 10 man raider with heavy weapons becomes increasingly more effective as it moves closer, and has a better save, however the 2 venoms (which are roughly similar points) win out on range/damage output. BUT if they are both jinking, which they inevitably will, the raider is far more effective, although 36 inch range does make you able to avoid more shots, so they are both pretty effective tools that shouldnt be overlooked.

Sybarites are only useful if you spam units of 5 kabalites in venom, and only if they're equipped with haywire grenades. Power weapons are useless, kabalite warriors would lose any close combat anyway, the only special weapons that can be useful are a blaster in 5 men squads or a splinter cannon in larger units of 10 in raiders with splinter racks.
