With the new mini-codexes from the Talons of the emperor out I want other players thoughts on the SoS. Now having access to a rhino (with its own psychic abomination to boot!) completely changes how they can be played.
What are thought on best weapons for rhino squads? Greatblades are so good but rhino CC units are just not practical as you need a full turn of sitting in the open before doing anything. Bolters seem okay but you won't be killing much which feels like greatblades are the better of the two. Flamers then seem best though cost the most. What are people's thoughts?

It says that their power does not work if they are in a transport or inside of a building. Bolters mean you will be outside 12" but I mean that is probably fine. I would assume you ideally want to just have them shoot away from inside the transport and then get out once some invis deathstar rolls up so they can blank the unit, the weapons they have that point would be sort of moot I would think.

Well the new rhinos have the psychic abomination rule itself so the aura will be there either mounted or not.

Do you have a specific source for that? The only thing I have seen is the data sheet for the SoS.

It's on their pamphlet for the Talons of the Emperor ( 40k) stuff. I think we can digitally buy it tomorrow. As it is, I think someone posted a link to the screenshots in News and Rumors.

I think under the new rules the units have to be all or nothing on weapon loadouts.

I don't mind speading 2 pts per flamer. Cheapest flamers you can buy. Pop out of rhino or bunker with flamers, that's something to be aware of.
Greatblades are nice but so rarely will they ever swing them.

https://spikeybits.com/2017/03/sisters-of-silence-new-codex-rules-revealed.html The rules for those who want to take a peek.
I was talking about them in another thread about my concern that the Culexus may not be good with my army. The new Sisters of Silence look really good and more durable. I'm thinking about playing 5 or 10 in a single unit, full Greatblades, with a Tech Priest Dominus in them to tank the big shots and add his own punch in CC. I'd be footslogging them, But I can screen behind my Kastelan Robots or Dunecrawlers, or distract with another menacing thing beforehand. Of course all this requires playtesting but I'm confident it can be good, I'd have more CC capabilities while being able to approach those psykers I'm trying to shut down, the Culexus just don't have the mobility to do that. I'm not too keen about the Rhino because it's not an Assault vehicle, and I won't buy a Land Raider for 10 models.
If I put Sicarian Infiltrators within range of them they can give me another edge in the fight with the -1 Init, WS, BS and Ld to the enemy, especially since the Sisters already hit at WS4 I5, and their formation gives a debuff of -1 on enemy psykers' WS while locked in CC with them. So to resume if I fight a Psyker unit with the Sisters and the Infiltrators the Psyker will have -4 LD, -2 WS, -1 Init and -1 BS, and the Sisters can reroll the failed to-hits against him. At AP2. I think that's nice.

A Null Maiden detachment with 3 squads and 3 Rhinos has the potential to extend their anti-psyker bubble to 27". That means with a minimal build, for 330 points you can completely shut down the Psychic phase.

It's a pretty amazing plug and play detachment that nullifies everything from demons to death stars.
For assembly I think I'm going for flamers since they seem best out of a rhino.

This feels like a hard counter to psyker heavy list.

What I want to know is what do we do against Renegades if we're fielding this? 3+ armor and AV 11 Rhinos does not seem able to do the job against massed S9 Barrage.
I really want to use these girls, but artillery Renegades (with Fateweavers/Magnuses and Screamerstars) dominate my meta. I feel like the SoS would just melt on turn 1 to the Earthshaker cannons.

I think any SoS detachment will obviously be a plug and play portion of a larger army. Probably my first competition try will be with a battle company main force.
For renegades I think the main force will need to be fast and MSU. Eldar could be a good primary force.
No SoS needed but renegades melt to genestealer cults just FYI.

Oh yeah, sure. SoS is a supplement. The thing is, the Psykers generally go with the Renegades. So I want to shut down the Screamer-Star/Rehati War Sect/Cyclopia Cabal, but these girls won't do much if they can't survive Turn 1 or 2 to even get in range of the Psykers.
Let me give you an idea of what I'm up against. My meta follows the tournament scene to some extent so I see a fair amount of lists similar to/based around this one, which won the LVO:
Demons CAD
Fateweaver 300
The Masque 75
Brims 30
Brims 30
7 Screamers 175
Heralds Anarchic Formation
Lv. 3 Herald, Paradox, Disc 145
Lv. 1 Herald, Exalted, Disc 100
Lv. 1 Herald, 45
Renegades CAD
Command Squad, Nurgle, Ordnance Tyrant 85
3x Earthshakers 165
2x Wyverns 110
Wyvern 55
17 Plague Zombies 51
17 Plague Zombies 51
Quad Mortar 30
Quad Mortar 30
Quad Mortar 30
Quad Mortar 30
3x Rapier Laser Destroyer, additional crew, training 79
3x Rapier Laser Destroyer, additional crew, training 79
3x Rapier Laser Destroyer, additional crew, training 79
Skyshield Landing Pad 75
I want to really use SoS, but I'm not sure they've got the tools to survive that and be useful even with the rest of my army there.

That's a copy-paste from a tourney-winning list, right?
High-end tourney lists don't exactly rely on wizards to do the job. They're just support.
At least you'll counter more fluffy magic lists like t-sons or mage spam lists.

Right, it's the winner of the 2017 LVO. As I said, a lot of lists in my area are based on/inspired by it.
High-end tourney lists don't exactly rely on wizards to do the job. They're just support.
Having fought similar versions, I can say say that Screamer-Star and Fateweaver (frequently changed to be Magnus, Oracles, Rehati, e.t.c.) definitely does a fair amount of work.
At least you'll counter more fluffy magic lists like t-sons or mage spam lists.
Yeah, SoS looks great for countering those, but I don't really get to face those very often.
Maybe I'll still get a squad just to paint and have them chilling about. They need an invulnerable save or a transport with better than AV11 to actually get put into service though.

Even a single sister squad in a rhino may take a couple turns to kill, simply because it's difficult unless you're Eldar or SM to have the right kind of firepower to kill both units all the way in a single shooting phase. You have to wreck the transport, then kill the entire squad cause if even one lives they're going to lose the next psychic phase before they can shoot or assault them the second turn. Daemons have few options to do that with shooting, meaning that they'll have to assault which again will take a couple turns. Summoning is a problem of exponential growth; if you delay the intial warp batteries from being summoned it may never reach the mass needed to really be a factor. If an army relies on psychic powers, those units will absorb all attention for the first 2 turns enabling you to either whittle down their deathstar sans it's psychic shields or wipe out the support units.
Think of the full detachment as a 330 point fire magnet, you could do alot worse for the points. Even the 220 point option creates 2 21" radius psychic-free circles...that's 1/5 of the entire table and can wall off either of your deployment zones.

Hey guys I thought you might have a more experienced opinion to help me, I'm going to playtest 10 Vigilator Sisters (Greatswords) in the next weeks in a 1500 pts Mechanicus army and wondered, is it best to take them as two min squad or one big squad ? I thought about one big squad with a Techpriest Dominus to tank some damage and deal his own Power Axe goodness, but two squads would allow for a bigger anti-psychic zone, although they'd be more prone to vanishing after a shooting phase, and I wonder if a min squad packs enough of a punch on the charge, especially considering they'll mostly be down by one or two Sisters by the time they charge. Any thoughts on this ?

MSU as there is just too much in the game that can wipe out a large unit at once.
