Friend of mine got me to dig my Necrons out of storage again after several years and when I bought a box of Praetorians to get back to collecting I noticed they came with very different base sizes. I think they used 25mm before, now the whole line is 32mm+?

Do I have to convert my army to this size for play or can they use the base they originally came with from a while ago? Prefer to keep the scenic bases some are on. When did this happen?

To my knowledge, GW have NEVER enforced a basing size other than 'what the model was supplied with'. Note that's not 'what the model is currently supplied with'.

They haven't enforced it, but tourneys often do. Hell GW shipped me my first 40k Ork Warboss with a Square base, as they hadn't come out with 40mm or larger rounds yet, lol.

As for the switch to 32mm, it just looks waaaaaaaaaay better on pretty much all models, this coming from someone who has rebased well over 200 marines now.

True, I often hated having to straddle Warriors on bases with the legs barely staying all on the base, most of them overhanging. It does give them a sense of size difference compared to smaller based models even if the scale is remotely similar.
