So I'm getting ready to take the plunge and start my 8th legion army. A quick question for list building so I don't derp the points costs. Since upgrading to a chaplain consul (who I'll be attaching to raptors) comes with a free power weapon, can he swap that for a Chainglaive for free? Or will I have to buy it separately?

Based on my reading of the rules you can. As long as it is possible for the model to take a power weapon it may take a chainglaive instead.

Hm. Tricky wording really. I doubt anyone would sweat it, but why go for the Chainglaive beyond possibly being thematic? I think just keeping a power weapon would be sufficient (like an Axe for some AP2).

Because Talent for Murder, letting him wound t4 on a 2+. And the thematic part OFC.

It's a free upgrade for IC's so yes something like a Chaplain gets on for free, similarly a Delegatus gets a master-crafted one for free.
This is because they're a tradeoff weapon. Strike at init, +1s AP3 with rending but you also lose your extra attack for 2x CCW.
And yes, they look freaking awesome if you model them well.

If you are going boarding shield, you lose the extra attack anyhow. Which is usually worth it. Then going for a PFist isn't a bad idea.

Offhand PF and refactor field would be good, or boarding shield+chain-glaive since they'll be in the thick usually and can easily get charged.
Boarding shields for ICs is just so mean.

Mean, but totally brilliant. Plus, fun chance for painting/modelling.

I like it. Jump pack chaplain with chainglaive and boarding shield. if I have the points left over maybe a volkite charger for some shooting other than hucking krak grenades at things. Thanks for helping me clear that up!
