I haven't played any 40k in this edition yet and finally got around to getting the Eldar codex. Is there any way to upgrade Rangers to Pathfinders? I mean they were originally different units, then a unit upgrade, then an upgrade if you took the special character, but now are they in a separate book or something? All I have right now is the rule book and codex Craftworlds.

there are no longer pathfinders, only rangers, though to be fair it is probably safer to say there are nto more rangers and only pathfinders as the all have shrouded now not stealth.. rangers in name only

Darn. I was hoping one of the dozens of supplement books I haven't read would have something. Thanks anyway.

If you were planning to have an Alaitoc army, I'm sorry bud but this edition screwed that craftworld over hard (they're behind Biel Tan, who got blown up). Saim Hann and their jetbikes are the new hotness.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Do yourself a favor and don't bother running them... they're not very good.

they do exactly one thing well. hold an objective in cover*

sniper rifles are fairly useless in the meta given your access to bladestorm weapons and high volume mid str firepower. they will not see serious tournament play, but in fun or local tournaments a single unit might be worth considering

*this assumes not against an army with ignore cover.

it truly is sad, here are elder who chose a different path, know the ways better than anybody but the harlequins, spend hundreds to thousands of years practicing stealth and making that shot count when needed and.... they are just awful for anything but sitting still in ruins. rules wise I would love them to get something useful like deepstrike without scatter even into terrain representing their use of the ways, as at least then you have a good positioning kind of useless otherwise sniper unit. that or give them a assault (or non heavy so they can move and shoot) sniper rifle.

Rangers also cut off enemy scout moves, like White Scar battle Companies. Not completely but enough to matter. so if youcant afford scorpions, the Rangers could suffice for this important duty

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.
