It says when using their own strength, you apply that modifier on top of the weapons.

On top of, means it adds together, and a Space Marine with a chainsword will have -3. That how everyone else is taking it?

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

It says when a weapon uses the owners strength it adds the users strength on top of the modifier. Chainswords have a listed strength of 4, regardelsss of who wields them, so I believe a sm with Chan sword is minus two, only, as given in the profile.

Oh, good point. Say a power sword then, same point, better example.

At first, I thought the save mods added only if the weapon used the User's strength (or doubled it, added +1, ...). However, I've seen a few people using Scouts with chainswords getting a total -3 save mod, so I'm not sure. I personally agree with nosferatu1001

A Power Sword is, IIRC, User's S +1, -3 save mod. So in the hands of a guardsman, that will be S = 3 + 1 = 4, so s save mod of -1. Add the -3 from the weapon and it's Save - 4. Only terminators will be saving against that.

I agree with this as well. My guess the reason people are saying its -3 is because the Chainsword is S4 which gives a -1 armor mod and add it to the -2 in the profile. I think S4 mod is baked into the weapon stat

Yep, hence why they state you only add the user strength mod when the weapon uses the users strength.

I don't agree with that. It says use the user's strength. Not the user's strength modified by the weapon.

So guardsman with power sword would be -3, space marine with power sword would be -4.

Look at page 53:
In the case of weapons that act as a bonus to their wielders' Strength, remember to calculate the save modifier using the total Strength after the modifier has been applied to the model itself (see Armour modifiers, pg 43).

I sit corrected.
