I had finished the Dark crusade campaign as Chaos last night and I'm gonna start a new campaign with another faction. My favorite thing about the campaign are the stronghold missions, yep these missions are hard but when you finish them you get the satisfaction of defeating your foe.
Anyway which of these stronghold missions did you find the hardest. For me it would be the Imperial Guard.

The Tau one is especially difficult thanks to the million Stealth Suits and Kroot constantly rushing you.

Drive closer! I want to hit them with my sword!

The Imperial Guard one was longer than it was hard. I do remember especially hating the Necron one though.

It'd be a toss up between the Tau and Necron one.

Both attack your base really quickly (and with decent size forces) that make it difficult from the start unless you have a decent number of honour guard units

Probably Tau.

Although I'd say Eldar was the most irritating. It would be nice to be able to clear a section of map and then have it stay clear, as opposed to having to deal with invisible, teleporting waystations that keep spawning in reinforcements.

By the way, are you aware of the 'cheat' with Necrons to kill strongholds? Basically, upgrade your lord and use his teleport to get him to the enemy stronghold. If he dies, he'll come back exactly where he was if you revive him. Phylactery makes him hard to kill, Lightning Field can do a lot of damage if you built enough charge and Solar Pulse can keep him safe for a while. And, of course, the Nightbringer form makes him stronger and invincible. Anyway, the goal is to get him to the enemy stronghold and then just start wailing on it, reviving him when necessary until its dead.

This lets you both skip large chunks of the enemy stronghold and also keep most/all of your army back to protect your own base.

Yeah, when i read the small novel that is the Death Guard unit options and think about resolving the attacks from a melee-oriented min size death guard squad, the thing that springs to mind is "Accessible!"

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

The Tau one is quite annoying.

I surprisingly found the Eldar one to be Surprisingly easy. I beat it as both Orks and Chaos I haven't played it as the other races yet. Although the Pointy-eared pansies did put up a fight , it wasn't as hard as the other missions. Just my opinion.
