Cultist of Nurgle with Open Sores
|
So I am on a mission. I recently switched from my SM's to CSM. I am really enjoying the models, and coming up with a color scheme. I am going Nurgle all the way.
My plan is to have a core of CSM/ Plague Marines with a small ally of Nurgle Demons for flavor. I am making a fluffy, but not push over army. I am toying with a list but I had a few questions...
I kind of went crazy with impulse buys from eBay recently and am up to my ears in models that I stripping and repainting. I have about 45 CSM/Plague Marines troops, 3 bikes, 2 Terminator Lords/Sorc, 11 Terminators, 5 Possessed, 5 Havocs, a metal Great Unclean One, Demon Prince, and the Chaos side of the DV set. I am trying to round out my army with a few pieces.
1. Is there a good alternative for a Chaos Spawn? I really dislike the GW models for this. Budget friendly would be cool, since my model buying frenzy...
2. Are combat squads not a thing that CSM get? I cant find anything in the codex, unless I am looking in the wrong place.
3. I was considering converting my "Slaughter Priest" (from the white dwarf mag) into a Sorcerer, so I broke him out last night and realized he is a pretty big compared to other models. Would this be an issue?
4. Why have I heard its better to put a Demon Weapon on a Demon, and its not that useful on a CSM Lord? I dont get it.
Thanks in advance for anyone giving me some insight!

So, as a Death Guard (Nurgle) player, you will want to use the Rules from Traitor's Legion. There is about 5 pages in that book a that are describe the Sons of Mortorarion.
Basically, for your main force you have to either take a plague host (1 lord plus 3-5 squads of plaguemarines) or a CSM warhost (CAD). The restriction is all people that can take marks of nurgle must take them.
You cannot divide your squad into smaller parts. But luckily, you don't have to as pretty much you will field 5-10 man squads of just about everything.

1. Well anything goes here. Really. No two spawn are alike. One could be slenderman, another could be a giant slug, or just a crazy bundle of apendages (think katamari damacy, but much less cute).
They embody the chaos part more than any other chaos model. The theme here is massive uncontrollable mutations though.
2. Nope. Nothing similar either. Wouldn't really work with the icons either.
3. Eh, characters can be a little bigger. No issues here, even lore wise. Horus grew in size due to all the chaos gifts too.
4. It's snot a general issue. The key here is putting them on a daemon prince, not a daemon. Princes being monstrous creatures makes them AP 2 regardless of the weapon.
A popular choice is the Black Mace. On a prince it is AP2, on everything else it is a measly AP4, seriously reducing its efficiency. Some of them are AP2 already though.
Well, and there's the fact that daemon princes have high initiative and high strength base. Doesn't mean they can't be good on a lord though, just depends on the weapon.
I'd wait with rounding out the army for a bit though. We are getting a Deathguard (nurgle) release, which can't be far off and that will more than likely introduce new units and models.

Thank you. Very informative!
I was going to wait for some new models....but...impulse took over.
