I clearly see more than 3 factions. Xenos for example includes multiple factions such as Necrons, Orks.
They can already be played in the same army now. It's not any different if they're called Xenos in 8th and continue to do so.

Actually the elves got 3 factions as the aeldari are not a different faction but only an alternative way to field eldar, dark eldar or harlequins.

First off, Aelf is pronounced the same as Elf and has been a perfectly acceptable if considerably less used spelling of the name for a lot longer than GW has been around.
Second, having Aeldari as a catch-all term for all factions of the Eldar is helpful, lets face it when most people say Eldar they are refering solely to Craftworlders and not the race as a whole. Automatically Appended Next Post: nordsturmking wrote: Dakka Wolf wrote:Great.

Thin air, there hasn't been any indication we'll be getting three huge books like Sigmar's Grand Alliance tomes either.

Why would they Use Aeldari when they just created the Ynnari? THAT'S a trademarkable name. Then split it down into Craftworld, Harlequins and whatever they come up with for the emos.
I think Farsight and Empire could just be keywords for the Tau, same as Craftworld as a sub-keyword for the Ynnari.

I will be really annoyed if armies of the imperium stay super friends. I fully expect it to happen but it is such BS that they get the most battle brothers... want wolven murder pack with tiggy led libraries conclave, allied in khan leading grav biker white scars, a primarch, Celestine, and some guard backing them up from the back... no problem. Xenos simply don't get anything like this. I have no problem with them being allies but they should not be battle brothers and auras/ powers should be faction specific. rowboat girlyman buffs ultramarines, want a librarian conclave no problem but it they are ultramarines they are not putting buffing your space wolves or white scars allies.

Chaos, Imperium and Xenos, it's a simple way to class the three different types of factions in the game, it doesn't mean all Xenos are suddenly going to be Battle Brothers (or whatever the 8th ed equivelant will be).
Precisely. It's a neat way of introducing the galaxy to newcomers. It must be daunting to see all the factions listed in full, so breaking them down into these three makes it easier to work out about which you want to find out more. Sometimes the veteran gamers forget that not everything is about them...
I have no doubt that we'll see more of this kind of thing (heck is already is more of this thing, if you see AoS as the start of it), but I doubt they'll do anything so bizarre as to make all xenos battle brothers.

Maybe we'll get multiple factions that can't ally in the same book. It would be kind of counterintuitive and maybe a bit confusing for new players, but it would be better at preventing shenanigans with allies and encouraging fluffy armies.
One thing that has been a bit overlooked here is the "three ways to play" statement from GW. Maybe there are only ally restrictions in the competitive version of the game, and the others let all xenos/imperials/Chaos ally freely.

Or maybe they'll continue to produce separate books for the factions, but they'll have a banner across the top or along the spine that says Xenos, Chaos or Imperium.

That would make a lot of sense. I would expect that 'narrative play' would have restrictions too. Open play must allow any kind of allies, since it allows you to 'field your entire collection'.

The cost of each would be less than the cost of a codex now (so 20 to 30 USD I guess) and that each book would contain everything you needed to start playing, so all of the rules, force org charts, etc. Those four books will cover every model in the GW and forge world range (even completely whack gak like the tau'anar), so I don't think they will contain much fluff considering how much crunch they have to cover. I imagine codexes will cost the same as now when they get released and will contain narrative scenarios, hobby sections, lots of fluff, reprints of the rules, unique uses for command points and codex specific force org charts. Overall I think it seems remarkably fair, considering how abusive some of the 7th ed stuff got. Does anyone want to guess what the faction specific uses for command points will be? My guess for one would be to allow a dark angels unit to fire at a unit charging them, were as space wolves might get counter charge, spend a command point and your unit counts as charging as well.

I'll reserve full judgement for when the rules actually come out, but if Xenos are treated like some kind of grand alliance where they're all 'friends' and can be together with zero restrictions...I'll be a little disappointed. Chaos and Imperium are fine as two functions, and frankly fix one of my bigger complaints of having to wade through a dozen of the exact same marine codex in a different colour. At least now they can have all the common units as generic marine units, then have specific Red Angry Marine and Wolfy Marine units.

Maybe imperium and xenos will be split into two books each just due to the number of armies?
I mean even with them being able to pair things down due to shared units (no need to have 5 pages of rhinos for 5 space marine armies) the IoM might be unweildy if one book., likewise xenos would be pretty thick,
so I could legit see. IoM1: Space Marines and their varients, Sisters of Battle, Inqusitors. IoM2: Guard and admech. Xenos: Eldar, Xenos: the other guys, Chaos.

You are right they said five, but space marines get their own codex, just rewatched it, it's right around the 30 minute mark. It also sounded like there would be two Xenos books because he said some would be in one book, which would imply that some will be in another. Two imperium books (space marines, and then everyone else), and I guess that leaves chaos with its own book. So Xeno nations in one (Eldar, Tau, Necrons) and soccer holligan xenos in the other (Orks, Tyranids, GSC/Space skaven/Rak'ghouls?), or Eldar could get one (*Bleh*) and the other Xenos are all lumped together in the second book.

When I first decided to get back into 40k I checked out the GW web store. The prices I saw were unbelievable. I recoiled in horror and disgust and moved instinctively to close the window - only then realizing that the site was set to Australia. After switching to the US, I felt much, much better about spending money on plastic toys.
