Hi I've been wanting to paint my tyranids a unique jungle themed paint scheme, I think Ive got the carapace sorted as a dark green with brighter green highlights but I wanted to paint a realistic or fleshy black for the skin, does anyone know how to do this? or should I just go with purply since it would probably be a lot easier.
Cheers

Why not do a combination of both and gradually work from black or an extremely dark purple to lighter shades of purple for highlights?

An interesting idea for the carapaces might be to use a greyscale scheme, and then apply the green gemstone paint over it - it'll tint it all green, and it'll have a slightly glossy lacquered look.

As to the fleshy black, go for a darker shade, and possibly use Gloss Nuln Oil to give it the glossy look and shade it darkly.

Depends on your green, any pictures?

I personally like black progessively highlighted with 'The Fang' for a nice black tone.

Thanks for the tips guys, possumcraft i attatched a photo of the greens ive com up with, I'll probably go with a castellan green base then dry brush loren forest and highlight moot green. The green gemstone i think would actually look awesome since the carapace is supposed to be glossy, ill try it out also the fang is an interesting paint its sorta grey blue which could give the skin a nice blue tinge instead of just black or grey.

The gemstone green's translucent nature also allows you to do some greyscale mottling patterns if you feel like it, they'll all come through in shades of green afterwards and still have that lacquered look. This is the knight I did the flames on that I mentioned...

I use that green shading triad myself, Zeeb. It makes for an awesome effect.

I'd say avoid The Fang with it - the greens will clash with the blue. I did a tau army a while back in that green with a brown for the cloth that looked very effective and jungly - maybe shade your black with Dryad Bark.
