So I've played against 2 Tyranid players. One had his Hive tyrants on the tail. The other - on the ground.
Obviously they are with wings.
The one on the tail can't conceivably hide his tyrant behind ruins. The one with them on the ground can do so easily.
Result: Tailrants die turn 1. Feetrants are completelly immune turn 1.

NOTICE: I am not REALLY saying the Feetrants are modeling for advantage. I'm just saying that people doing Tailrants are completelly screwed out of any chance of victory (turn 1 anyway) since they just die turn 1 to any competant shooting list.
Is there any way around this?

Do like any competent Tyranid player does and start your Flyrants off the board?

It's still a pretty big difference in effectiveness, being able to hide on the table turn 1 vs having to come in later.

But yeah, I don't know the answer to that question. I have a Flyrant that was made before the current model existed and as such it's just dragon wings attached to an old metal Walkrant, it also has a much smaller profile than the GW plastic Flyrant.

Better terrain.
With the scale creep and huge flying models all over the place these days it's worth investing in some larger Los blockers be they rock spires, large buildings, spore towers or whatever.
Makes for a far more interesting game.

I've an old (around 10 years?) metal hive tyrant model which is on two legs even though it has wings. Would you really call me out on using a model which I've had for nearly a decade, and didn't majorly alter other than adding wings?

It kind of just boils down to how the models have evolved over the years. I also have 10 year old terminators which are noticeably shorter and slimmer than the new ones, and also come on much smaller bases.

Both of these examples are perfectly legal. Anyone who complains is an asshat. You're golden.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If i had 2 I'd have one modeled in each way to stop them looking the same.

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.
