hey there, i'm going to be painting this guy.
https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/dwarf%20male%20axe%20shield/sku-down/02661

I'm trying to do a cold steel thing on the armor as he is a frost dwarf in a very snowy environment.

I know you can do something like this by adding blue but i'm not sure how. Do i do a wash? a glaze? before or after the highlights? what shade of blue? thin down the blue glaze/wash?

any advice would be appreciated.

i use a wash of an equal mix of P3 Armor Wash & P3 Coal Black for the deep shadows...
then a glaze of P3 Blue Ink for the midtones...

you can see the effect on Borka here:

and on the Kingdom Death Grand Mother here at the bottom of the page:

hope that helps...
good luck!!!

If you're painting NMM, any shade of blue works. I like dark sea blue from vallejo for many NMM metallics.

And of course just black and white as your other two colors.

Turquoise can also work well for tinting steel, especially for NMM. I paint NMM according to the guide in the Vallejo NMM set. The colors included for steel are Dead White, Cold Grey, Midnight Blue, Turquoise and Black. The Cold Grey is pretty true to its name.

I'm doing real metallics, leadbelcher as base.

It really works the same way actually.

If you're using leadbelcher, mix in some turquoise or a dark blue, add black as needed.
