In one of the loading screens for Dawn of War III, It reveals that Gorgutz was the canon winner. While I admit Gorgutz is my favorite character in the series and it is good to see that after two previous defeats he finally won in the last expansion. It also means that the Imperial Guard lost . It's a real shame really, Stubbs was a pretty awesome character in a game filled with poorly developed characters (aside from..you know). I was kinda hoping the IG won.

But… Sisters should have won!

"Our fantasy settings are grim and dark, but that is not a reflection of who we are or how we feel the real world should be. [...] We will continue to diversify the cast of characters we portray [...] so everyone can find representation and heroes they can relate to. Stubbs was one of the leaders to GTFO when his base fell. Honestly, I couldn't like the man after that. I wonder how on earth Gorgutz got through the Guard and Tau levels? Personally, I had hoped one of those two won.

My favorite game of DoW took place as Orks on the Guard level in Soulstorm. I was basically trapped in my base by a constant flow of Guard forces, kept at bay by some dug-in Flash Gits and Looted Wagons providing a constant stream of fire while a rally point fed an endless stream of boyz into the grinders to keep them at bay. It was basically a perfect simulation of 40k kept at perfect equilibrium (as long as I focus fired down their vehicles).

I ended up winning by loading Gorgutz and some Nobs in trukks and bombing them straight through the lines (with some empty dummy trukks in the front to soak fire) and just bum-rushing the game-winning base just as they were finally breaking my lines at home. Felt pretty epic.

Anyhow this is all to say that Gorgutz deserved to win and that's awesome.

Really? Where's this, may I ask? Anyhow, it's terrific, because I always loved Gorgutz and was I remember getting annoyed with his constant failure after the canonical Blood Raven Victory on Kronus. Good for him. Shame it's probably the least cool of his incarnations, but I'm happy either way.

Good for Gorgutz, he deserved a win after all the crap he put up with in the other games

Maybe Stubbs would have won this if he hadn't lost those 100's of Baneblade

Boreale was always dead, according to DOW2 his incompetency got 500 blood ravens and himself killed at Kaurava.

I never understood the little cult of personality around stubbs on certain *cough *cough imageboards. Always felt his voice acting was poor and that there wasn't really anything to him.

Also, he refused to die standing, so that's a huge knock against him for me.

The cult grew out of the silly "100 baneblades" meme, which is really all you need to know about the culture of those imageboards that shall remain nameless.

I was always a fan of Lukas Alexander. He was the most interesting and complicated of the commanders- both dutiful and ambitious.

Worst IG commander in the series. I'll take Castor from DoWII instead. He is just so... manly

Agreed, both Lucas and Castor were better. Sturn did the grizzled old man routine pretty damn good as well. I especially like the Lucas/Thule interactions, its an excellent example of a small scale civil war that no one really cares about, like happens all the time in 40k.

feth them, the Imperial Guard finally got something good in the lore, then CA has to make fething grimdark equivalent of jar jar binks the victors, feth them

First, they ruined the dawn of war series with dawn of war 2, now they making it even more crap with dawn of war 3, and also not including imperial guard

if they're included at all, TBH... given how the game is DESIGNED Guard may simply not WORK as a player faction. DOW3 is more MOBA then RTS in many ways, it's all about the big hero units and their supporting chaff. Guard would be kinda akward for that, I mean.. it could b e done but would you really wanna see IG command squad blowing through ork boys like a Primarch in a badly written bolter porn novel?

DOW 1 had that, a Guard command squad with nothing but Priests could pop invulnerability 4 times and be immune to damage for 40 seconds and just cut through boys.

Yeah, but they go their own expansion that was dedicated to just them

And you know what? It was a lot of fun and memorable

The story was also pretty good as well; my theory for the lack of guard content out there is that when you write normal human characters, you actually have to give them character and also have an actual plot with twists and turns rather then just bolter porn filler

Yeah, that mission was annoying in some sections, but the titan protection mission afterwards was amazing, and the ending cutscene after that moreso

Also, as for the ending of SoulStorm, it just does not feel right that the comedy relief faction has to win; its like the equivalent of Disney rectonning Return of the Jedi so that Jar Jar Binks bursts in out of nowhere in the final act of the movie and somehow blows up the deathstar before Luke and Vader/Anakin have their final moments together(and while they're still on it), and the last 10 minutes of the movie is him doing the gangnam style with the ewoks while they promote the new Disney Land Star Wars

Someone's gotta win, and Orks for all their sillyness are pretty effective

Also I don't think it makes too much sense from a story perspective, because if the Orks won, wouldn't the Blood Raven survivors such as Cyrus have all been slaughtered? In the end of Blood Raven defeat cutscene, it seemed like they were all surrounded and I doubt the Orks would have shown them mercy or slipped up enough to allow any of them to escape; the only factions that would have allowed such a thing to occur would be IG and Tau; sisters of battle would have executed them all, dark eldar would enslave them and the eldar would kill them all

I disagree, I'm glad it wasn't just another Imperial victory, and it's hardly a retcon, people just assumed the Guard had to win if the Ravens didn't for some reason. IF Gorgutz was to lose there again he kind of loses his impact in III if he's failed every time he's done anything since first forming a WAAAGH! Gorgutz only got the time to shine int he worst game he's in against a series of bland enemy leaders.

Plus, there's a huge difference between the orks and Jar Jar Binks. Orks have way more to them than comedy. Jar Jar Binks was a disaster, and an unfunny one at that, while the Orks are beloved and badass.

Their Marines.. if any faction is capable of fighting through an enemy that surrounds them and reaching extraction, it's them.

Dawn of War II already confirmed that the Blood Ravens suffered a major loss in Kaurava, with half the chapter being wiped out because of Boreal and his hatred of metal boxes.

Remember that only half the chapter was present at the time.

So basically yes, every Blood Raven in the Kaurava system was slaughtered.
