Also, as for the ending of SoulStorm, it just does not feel right that the comedy relief faction has to win;

As said the Orks aren't just comedy relief. They can be an absolutely terrifying force to be reckoned with. In the original Dawn of War campaign the Orks essentially win as regardless of your victories as the Space Marines as they take over the planet and you have to retreat.

Also Stern was an amazing Imperial Guard commander. I haven't played Retribution much though so I can't compare him to Castor.

Think the purest britishness imaginable, then give it a spiffing moustache and a snarky sidekick. He's also actually pretty damn competent for a Guard general, including piecing together half of the Big Bad's plan long before everyone else in the sector. My personal list of favourite DoW guard generals (Adding all the other guardsmen we see would take too long):

Lucas Alexander
Castor
Sturn
Stubbs

If you allow yourself to be killed and ingested, your soul is forfeited.

I hope Sisters win Dawn of War 3.

Till you reached that damned escort mission with the land raider, I just reached it and hit a wall.

Also, as for the ending of SoulStorm, it just does not feel right that the comedy relief faction has to win; its like the equivalent of Disney rectonning Return of the Jedi so that Jar Jar Binks bursts in out of nowhere in the final act of the movie and somehow blows up the deathstar before Luke and Vader/Anakin have their final moments together(and while they're still on it), and the last 10 minutes of the movie is him doing the gangnam style with the ewoks while they promote the new Disney Land Star Wars

Wow, you really hate the Orks, do you? You should play the Space marine game and also read all the audio logs there. It gives a very good impression of Ork warfare. They are nothing like Jar Jar Binks. They are rather Klingons or Vikings - but like everything in 40K absolutely exaggerated and turned into a caricature. And Gorgutz portrayed that very well.

That does sound amazing. I'm not sure playing the campaign again just for him would be worth it though.

Stubbs was an incompetent coward. Losing 100 Baneblades and refusing to fight and die alongside his men?
Worst IG commander in the series. I'll take Castor from DoWII instead. He is just so... manly

2nd Lieutenant Mira is best Commander.
Ok yes not Dawn of War, but still set in the same timeline.
I'll second that. Mira might not have made a huge splash in the events of the game, but she's one of the more believable representations of an Imperial Guard officer in my eyes, and one of the more believable characters in that story period. Stoic, grimly determined, raging against the dying of the light against all odds. Her command was foisted upon her by tragedy and she did so well keeping her soldiers alive and fighting a Space Marine captain bothers to tell her so. The dialogue and such make it clear that none of those guard were expecting to get out alive, Mira included. Her expression of relief when the Ultramarines show up is one of the few genuine, emotional moments in like any 40k game.

yeah, I honestly when I was running a death watch game a few years back really used that game as the basis for how guardsmen would react to the marines

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Next Generation, DS9, or Voyager Ferengi? Because there are big differences between their portrayals.

Still waiting for Godot.
