Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

As a Night Lords player it is both pleasent and worrying that Moral is getting an overhall but what will this mean for Fear inducing models like Night Lords and Daemons.

Potential options:
- Fear is scrapped completely ;_;
- Fear does as it does now: causes you to hit on 5s (maybe 6s now)
- Fear prevents opponant from attacking back
- Fear adds a negative modifier to your opponants moral checks at the end of their turn

And more worryingly, if it does return in 8th, will there be rules to stop it, i.e. Fearless, and will Ld9/10 be thrown around so much that Fear won't matter again?

What are your thoughts? Do you want Fear to come back and if so what do you want it to do? Do you think that there should be rules to counter Fear?

I think Fear needs a bigger impact, although admittedly, most of its lack of impact currently is that so many things ignore it.

I do think there should be Fearless and similar rules-but I think they should be quite rare.

Vigo. Spain.

I think it will give a -1 or -2 to LD to enemy units at X" distance or lower.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

and that those who don't ignore it usually have low WS anyway.

Combined with battleshock, if fear reduces Ld (I'd guess -1 with terror being - 2) you're literally scaring people to death. I'd say that's pretty night lord.

I agree, it is likely -1/-2 for Morale checks taken within X" of a unit with Fear.

Marines will likely ignore this, and honestly, they might be the extent of ATSKNF.
Fearless will most likely ignore Morale entirely, though I suspect less units will have Fearless.

Daemonic Instability is likely gone as 8th Morale is basically it. Daemons will suffer Morale like everyone else, though they may have higher LD
Same with Nids. Synapse may just provide higher LD for nearby units. Like LD9 or 10, which makes a HUGE impact with the 8th Morale system.

All of this would mean "everyone is affected by Morale" as GW claims. I am sure many units will be Fearless, but I doubt any army will have all Fearless.
Fear being an aura effect would make a big difference in the game.

Yea that's what I figured too. Some kind of penalty to your LD. It would fit right in with he new morale system and being light lords could improve on that. This would make night lords pretty scary indeed since every penalty to leadership you hand out could mean another model killed. Especially vs multi wound models. It could prove to be really nice I think. Right now you can pretty much bring leadership down to zero if you make a somewhat gimmicky army, but it doesn't really do all that much. Imagine what seriously lowering LD would do in 8th?

Let's say you cause -5 to LD, which I imagine would be possible if you go all out. That's going to cause a lot of damage once that unit has to test for breaking and goes right through all saves and feel no pain or whatever we have now.

Agreed; Fear is probably a penalty to your Battleshock tests. Unless they change its wording so it's no longer Fear, or unless Space Marine lose "And They Shall Know No Fear", then Space Marines will likely still be ignoring Fear. On the plus side, this means they still suffer from Leadership, but Fear will be useless against them.

It is worth pointing out that they promised every model would have rules, but not that every rule will still exist. It's entirely possible that fear will get wiped out entirely.

Ugh the morale system is going to have battle shock. I hate the idea. I like the current morale system. They really do seem to be AoS'ing 40k as well. Somebody somehow convince me this is a good thing.
