So I want to make a unique-ish (ISH) vanilla chapter, and I feel orange is underrepresented.

I've used the same basic technique on all three, which is close to the limit of my painting skills. I can't edge highlight.

I have tried three washes and can't really decide if they make a difference.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Mech. Grey undercoat, joakero base, squig layer, troll slayer and fire dragon "highlights," + wash and a glaze of squig

They aren't bad, but they still need a lot of work. I would suggest just washing in nuln oil, Seraphim Sepia or Agrax, homemade washes and mixes have slight inconsistencies that although might not look big on paper, an entire army made with mixes will all have a slightly different tone of orange.

Other than that you need to layer and edge highlight the orange and do a lot of work on the skin. And edge highlighting isn't hard, just take a detail brush and draw a thin line of color on the edge of what your painting, it's slightly time consuming but creates a great effect on the mini.

Not a bad mini overall, especially if you're just getting started at or back into painting like I am. (All this stuff I'm telling you is just Ideas, take it as you will because I'm not the best artist anyway)

They look better in person, but only a little. My eye has less megapixels than an Iphone 6s I guess.

It seems IMO that you just splashing the washes on, maybe a bit more control in the reseces will help with the pooling effect and give more crisp depth.

I'm starting to feel like "wash" is something of a misnomer.

Even when I try to be neat it ends up messy. I have the hands of whatever the opposite of a surgeon is.
