Hi guys!
I'm considering starting a T'au army and I'm looking for paint schemes. I think this one is cool. I'm not sure how fluffy it is though? The white with the deep purple on the boosters and shield works well together. I also like the deep green jungle camo.

What do you guys think?

I seem to remember that the T'au adapt their armor's color to the environment they fight in. And a given sept does not always use the same colors, even if most septs are always represented the same way in the art/codex. Only the sept markings are important.

Also, the faction focus about the T'au showed a <sept> keyword for the drones, identical to the <chapter> keyword of space marines. There is therefore a very high chance that in 8th edition different septs will have different rules. My advice would therefore to create your own sept, say it's from the 3rd or 5th sphere, and wait until 8th edition to choose which sept it originated from.

Okey, cool. So it's mostly a camo thing?
So, the sept markings are the Center emblem on the broadside? They can be whatever colour if I create my own sept?

If you look at GW's webstore, most tau models are white with red accents. Some of these red accents are little lines of different length. These are the sept markings (and the codex explains what each line means), and the red used is the red that would be used by the Vior'la sept. If you create your own sept, you can reproduce similar markings but in your chosen color (or drop them altogether if you're not into that much freehanding).

On top of that, each sept has a symbol, which is a few geometrical shapes or lines inside a circle (the codex has a list for the biggest septs). The round symbol that is engraved on most models (like on the FW shoulderpads) is that of the Tau empire. GW also sells shoulderpads that bear the farsight enclave's symbol (as well as transfers with this symbol). You could very well design your own sept symbol, and either paint it on some models/tanks, or resculpt the Tau Empire symbols to make them look like your sept's symbol.
