So, with 8th on the way, lots of stuff is going to have more than 6 wounds, and keeping track of them with D6s (or any dice, really) is going to be a bit cumbersome.

At the LVO, I picked up some great little magnetic rotary wound markers with gears on them, which will be perfect, but I only got 6, thinking I'd only use them for big stuff (stompas, squiggoths, etc).

Thing is, I can't remember what company it was that sold them to me.

They look identical to this, but with patterns instead of colors:

But they had quite a few patterns, even said they had some ones with orky faces, just not at the venue, sadly.

Anyone know where/how to get rotary wound markers like the above but with 40k themes?

Suppose you could always get stickers, which could work, but I know some company, somewhere, makes 40k themed markers, but I can't remember or find who they were.

*EDIT*: Found the original company: https://museonstore.com/collections/frontpage/products/damage-tracker-dials

Hell, even just those are pretty handy. The only big drawback is that I can see many things having more than 10 wounds.

Depending on how the game goes, I may use cards in sleeves and wet-erase markers to count wounds, kinda like how I did for Warmahordes. I mean, I have the sleeves and markers still, so that might work.

I am finding that I may need to change how I count with dice for Wound tracking. I always prefer to "count-down" with my dice, showing how many wounds are remaining on a model. But with my experiences in Age of Sigmar, and how some big monsters can gain wounds back WITHOUT counting as being healed combined with their damage table being wounds SUFFERED, not remaining. I may have to start counting up on my dice, which goes against how I have been playing for the past 7 years...

Well, even that's not so bad. For example, an orkanaut has 18 wounds. Start the marker on 8, and count down, and just go back around to 10 once you hit zero. This could potentially get cumbersome if you have a ton of 10+ wound models, but I think it would be pretty easy to remember who is half dead and who isn't.

If you spammed stompas in an apoc game with 40+ wounds (or whatever they will be), it might not be enough, but for normal 40k I think they'll work great.

I have d12s in the same style as my d6s for wounds already, if they climb too high on average it's just another excuse to get some d20s.

I also plan on getting some d20s. I just bought a Chessex Pound-o-D6, as you said this is a good excuse to buy more, so I'll get the Pound-o-Dice.

I'd go for that too, but royal purple borealis looks nice so I like them to match.

If anyone cares, I was able to locate the company that sold the ones I bought at the LVO. They have a variety of designs, and are $15 for 6, instead of the $7 for 2 at the link above.

I highly recommend.

I also plan on using D12s. I don't think I like D20s though as there are so many sides that the numbers are smaller and the dice is too "round" making it harder to stay on the base.
I'll likely just use a combo of D12s & D6s. My dice all match my armies, so they don't look bad on the bases

So, if you glue a skull or some other item to a 8mm x 2mm magnet. Then you can put them on the base and remove them as you take wounds. Technically, if you don't glue anything to it you can just use the magnet themselves.

Total cost for 100 magnets. $4.85.

I plan on grabbing a ton of the wound markers from first edition descent (I know I have that box somewhere) and placing them on a card I will make for anything with more than 6 wounds. especially if that thing has a degrading stat line.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I will probably dig through my old roleplaying dice bag and pull out some dice with more sides, but in reality, you can easily track this with a few D6s.

Oh look, a 6, a 6, and a 2. It's taken 14 wounds.

Yeah the only issue with dice is that inevitably someone picks them up or they get knocked into or rolled over etc. I normally prefer dice, but I'll probably end up with a tracker or two if I try the new 40K (I also have a bag of blood wound markers from 4Ground).

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It's pretty easy now with, say, a knight, as it's pretty easy to remember how many HPs a 6 HP vehicle has left. But with 24 wounds now, it might get messy remembering, and it's too easy to knock off dice when you're moving something around. I really like the dials.

different sized dice like D10's and 8's are good, they tend to stay upright. 4's are the most stable, but that could get messy with the 24 wound models running around.

I play MTG and attended a lot of pre-releases.

I think I'm thoroughly set for any amount of wounds under 200

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
