Hi guys!
I'm considering starting a tyranid horde army for 8th ed. I was looking at the tyranid swarm box with 10 Gargoyles; 40 Hormagaunts; 40 Termagants; 1 Carnifex; and 4 Ripper Swarms. It seems like good value for money, but what do you think about hormagaunts? I'm pretty new to the game, but I never saw them in 7th, will they come back for 8th? I love the idea of having a couple mawlocks digging a tunnel for 40 hormagaunts with the rest of the termagants running across the board.
What ideas have you considered for your tyranids in 8th. Thx for any comments.

Well it will be Trygons digging the holes..
I love Hormagaunts myself, and will likely do Trygon/Hormagaunt combos across the board

In term of investment, it's one of the best deal you will ever get out of GW. You save around a $150 by buying it. If you want those gaunts it's an excellent deal. Add that to two Let's Start Tyranid box and the Carnifex Brood and you have a very decent start for an army.

Thanks for the advice. I want a horde army, so i cant really go wrong with the swarm box. Maybe I'll buy that one and wait for the new edition before I buy more.

Hormagaunts will be pretty darn fantastic in 8th. They will be movement 8, and when within Synapse they'll ignore battleshock. Add that to the universal rule that chargers always strike first, the tide of hormagaunts will even roll over things like Harlequins and due to new wounding table meaning T5 on 5's.
Add that to some of the known Tyranid buffs, catalyst is a psychic power giving a 5+ save after save and the Swarmlord giving a unit the ability to move in the shooting phase and still charge. I expect a lot of synergy between Hormagants, small units of equally fast Genestealers, and a Swarmlord with a bodyguard of Tyrant Guards to be an effective rush list.

I bought the swarm box, the tyranid starting box and a trygon. I bought it right after i finished reading the faction focus I'm gonna have to hold of on the genestealers until i've painted some of the stuff i have on the way. I'm so hyped!

Definitely! Seems like the living tide of 'nids may very well be capable of doing damage now rather then relying on less horde-based armies as before.
