How are you guys planning to use wound markers in 8th?
I always wanted to make good looking wound markers for 7th like servo skulls but I never got around to it. Now some models like knights have 25 wounds I'm wondering how to do it without a piece of paper.
It's a small thing; just sourcing ideas to make the table look good

I'm thinking of picking up the blood drop sets. They're pretty cool and they would zazz up some board games that use blood drops as wound markers.

Yea these are pretty good. I guess you have to color code them similar to poker chips. This color is 1 that color is 5 kinda thing.
I'm still trying to figure a way to do it with a model though, similar to an objective marker.
Maybe do somthing similar with skulls? Buy a big bag of skulls and do singular skulls, 5 skulls and 10 skulls. Maybe even spare heads

d12s, d20s and for the few things over 20 I'm thinking of either a combination of the two (as 2 d12s work for a knight for example) or venturing out into the lesser used dice like d28s and d30s.

I dont like the idea of d10, 20, etc because I feel like I will be knocking them off or having them roll around.
What I intend to do, is use round tokens, color coded like power chips.
one for one
one for three
one for 5
I very much doubt I will ever need to make stack taller than 5 for vehiles. For units, the rules seem to be you have to remove whole models anyway, so you only need to keep track of the wounds on ONE of them at any time. So the tokens will work well.
I may even 3d print them up instead of just sourcing some material

I plan on making some dials, similar to X-Wing.
I don't use a lot of big multiwound stuff in my army though, and already have many 1-3 wound and a couple of 5 wound tokens I had from infinity.

I had considered dials as well but I don't know where to even start with looking for them. Any suggestions for infantry sized ones? If they were blank I could model somthing on top. That might be cool

Maybe GW will release something as many models will now have more than 6 wounds.
But they didn't do it for AoS, so it's not that likely I guess.

I'm considering using something as simple as tiddlywinks. Colours for 1, 5, 10 wounds and maybe a 4th colour to use for Command Points/strategems.

Magic The Gathering or other similar TCGs would probably be a good place to start.
Also, in MTG players often use different coloured glass pebbles for life tracking.
My plan - use bases with 'dots' on them. The dots will be arranged like dice spots, but be more interesting such as skulls on pikes or something similar. Automatically Appended Next Post: also, doing a quick google search, it appears it is easy enough to 3d print life counters as well as another option.

trackers getting bumped is the number one issue. I think the wound dials are probably a safer option.

I might use coins to track wounds. The bigger the coin, the more wounds it has. That'll work with smaller models, but with bigger models.
I think I'm going to go with my dnd dice. Easy and cheap way of doing things.

From playing the Pokemon tcg which requires a lot of wound tracking on multiwound characters, I have found a good "poor man's method" (as in too poor to afford anything) for tracking wounds is using the value of coins. In the United States, pennies (1 cent), nickels (5 cents), and dimes (10 cents) provide a convenient range of values that work for most models. You also do not need to worry as much about placement as if you bump the stack, you can just pick up the coins. This could be difficult if you have a lot of multiwound characters together as the stacks get confused, but GW did suggest that they were doing away with deathstars.

If you used a binary pin system, you could get up to 16 wounds, which seems like a good level, on 4 pins. empty pin is a 0, pin with a bead on it is a 1.

It isn't that hard, the trickiest is for multi-wound infantry because they are so small. For Most Vehicles you can put the dice right on the vehicle, for MCs you can usually put it right on the base. The issue is going to be for units of multiple wound models, unless the rules state that you always must apply wounds to wounded models first you can end up dragging a ton of dice with you.

I think the little slider dials is a great idea, as everyone can read numbers and they would sit on top of a tank reasonably well, does anyone makes ones that have double figures or two wheels, so you could do any number up to 99?

I tend to count up when using coins, so you would just remove a chunk of the stack and replace is with a new, higher value coin when damage is dealt. It is a problem though, especially with multiwound attacks in the mix.
