Rulebook and I'm still not sure if I'm gonna get an index at all or wait for a chaos dex. I'm not going to be getting a game in anytime soon I suspect.
But if I was to get an index it would be the chaos one.

Rulebook, both Imperial books, Chaos and Xenos 1. At this point I may as well get all of them, but I don't really need Nids, Orks or Tau.

The only books I don't have immediate plans to get are the #2 books. I don't play Orks, Nids, T'au or any Imperium but am interested in the Space Marine book.
This might change if the books are super cheap or there is a bundle with main rules and all 5 indexes.

Honestly, Marines are such a common faction that the Main rules and Space marine book should be on everyone's list, if for nothing other than "knowing your enemy"

We also know that armies are eventually getting solo Codices again. I like the idea of owning the bulk of the core rules for every army and only getting a Codex for my faction.
I doubt the Codices will really change a ton of rules and will just be add-ons, so owning all the Indexes should be all the knowledge you'll need for enemy armies.

agreed on know thy enemy... but i am hoping for digital so i can study my enemy on my phone rather than lugging another book around

Well you only need to know thine enemy in terms of gear and rules really, which should be covered by the free rules from what I understand. You can always take it to the next level an know what stuff costs to gauge how likely you are to see certain options, but I'd say the free rules are fine and, well, free. Power levels should be close enough to allow you to compare what an equivalently costed unit could do too without having to drill down to exact point levels.

None...I would rather buy quality hardback books, and I will probably only buy some nurgle stuff on ebay for the minis and won't have the mini rulebook either as I hate the numarines. Although if I do decide to play it the internet will be a good option for me. I'm also guessing the art will be even more Deviantart failtastic poo than 7th even. So no GW you lost my money with softcover and terrible art when it comes to rules/books.

I'll wait to see how necessary the main rule book is before I get it, I will get the Xenos #2 for my orks. But with the rumblings about ork buggies on the horizon, I might have to wait to see if an ork codex comes out instead. Might get IoM #2 since I do like Inquisition and have had a vague interest in the non-space marine armies.

My armies and my wife's armies are spread across all 5 books.

Just Imperial 2; I'm a bit strapped for cash right now, so I'll make do with the free core rules. I do have Space Marine armies, but so do my regular opponents, so I'll concentrate on my Guard to begin with.

Rulebook and definitely Xenos 1. Maybe Xenos 2, but not sure yet.

I'm hoping that the actual codexes will combine some of the armies, such as Codex Space Marines containing all SM Chapters or Codex Eldar containing all Eldar types.

I like looking at rules for all the armies, so as long as they dont cost as much as the current books, I'll get all of the Index Books.

All the Index books and maybe the rulebook - I will have a look at it first.

I have all the previous editions and I really don't need another giant hardback that's not especially useful for gaming.

If they don't make a mini book which contains all the rules and variations I guess I'll have to buy it eventually..

I'm not sure rushing to buy will be a good idea for me as currently I run orks, ig and sisters but I am expecting new models for possibly all of those factions so it might be best to wait so I don't have to buy 2 more books when individual codex come out. I'm expecting new models will drop at the same time as individual codexes.

I will probably get all of them eventually just so I have 8th ed rules for all my models. But at first I'm going to concentrate on what I can bulk out the starter box forces with. So main book(with starter box), both Imperial books and the Chaos one.

Ah yes a change in my FLGS community. I can get games again as a Tau player. Woohoo! When the 40k grand campaign happens I'm going to show up and actually get some games.

Definitely getting the 8th core and Tau one for sure now.

The main rulebook, but it depends what all is in the indices. If there is any lore at all, I'll probably pick up all of them because $25 seems cheap enough. If not, then chaos and tyranids books only.

I have money for one army. So i'll wait until I know what happens to the factions i plan on buying. I'll want to see what if anything happens to the SoB, and i'll want to see if Eldar Corsairs are in the eldar book.

The fact that Index Xenos II is beating/tied Codex Space Marines is shocking to me. I thought the space marines would be far and above the most popular index, maybe things have changed over the last few years.

Just preordered/paid for all five GW ones, plus a couple of starter sets. I'll order the FW ones as well, but probably wait until late June when the second wave go up to get them together because FW shipping is lollerskates.

I am also sad to see Chaos trailing in last. Hopefully that just means that folks expect the Chaos codes to turn up in short order.

I am getting the Starter Set, so the main rulebook. I am also getting the Index: Imperium Vol. 1 because I have Crimson Fists, Blood Angels, and Deathwatch Space Marine armies. I was unsure if I wanted to get Index: Imperium Vol. 2, but looking at some of my other forces, between my Assassins, Imperial Knights, Skitarii, Custodes, and Sisters (Celestine and her sidekicks as well as Sisters of Silence), I felt I could justify the second book.

Big rulebook and the second xenos (which is great because 3 out of my 4 armies are in it...dont play the space commies). As for my dark angels, ill just borrow my friends marine one til i have extra cash available.

Tau are mega popular and orks have a huge ownership. They are nearly tied neck and neck for 4th spot but orks have like a small decimal edge. They may as well be tied for 4th it's so close, but that was years ago and the greater good has only exploded and expanded at every turn. Both of them weren't too far behind the next most popular faction either so you know. Top tier factions in terms of ownership. Then add in the fact that it also has Nids and Genestealers and it's going to sell more than the chaos one simply due to the raw amount of players one book covers.

Space Marines are S tier. Then IG > Chaos > Orks > Tau are A Tier ownership. Then Eldar lead the B tier in ownership and everything drops off after that.
