Yes, i think the keyword "fly" includes a rule that only fly may assault fly. ...Which means a vendetta could also assault some jetpack units if they used their jump before

I forgot that it works both ways, Vendettas ramming Swooping Hawks out of the sky should lead to some interesting situations and funny games. You can also tell your guardsmen to affix bayonets even when they're embarked on a Valkyrie.

40k drinking game: take a shot everytime a book references Skitarii using transports.

Yeah assaulting skimmers in 7th ed was already a stretch, assaulting flyers makes my brain hurt. It's like running out into your yard and smacking a boeing 747 flying hundreds of feet over your head with a hammer. The only reasonable accompaniment for that would be the benny hill music and Bean as your squad mate.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

We may yet see a rule for assaulting Flyers is impossible except by models with the Fly rule (how I would rule it), of maybe Flyers can only be hit on 6s in melee, or something.

If flying vehicles can't leave the battlefield without being destroyed, they had better be a hell of a lot more maneuverable than they are currently. Because as they are now, non-hovering capable flyers are lucky to get two strafing runs before being almost useless due to max turn and minimum move.

This alone is why I always preferred a solution where either the game "scales down" ranges and distances as a whole, or flyers are simply an "off-table support". Since the second option would forfeit models, I end up going for the first choice instead.

I liked the current mechanic indicating they move fast but slow as much as possible to engage targets then inevitably they are off a turn speeding back up and re-maneuvering. I would have preferred they have to come back in from the table edge they left though.

So far each full data sheet we have seen has had several unit keywords in it.

First we have a unit type style keyword. Infantry. Vehicle.

Then we get some kind of keyword that names the unit. Interessor, hell forged leviathan dreadnaught, mv71 sniper drone, Then we also get a more general keywords that say the type of unit type. Drone, Dreadnaught, Hellforged, Primaris.

Then we get some keywords that will adjust how they behave differently from basic infantry or whatever they are. Unit subtypes. Namely, fly.

Notice the Inceptors keywords.

Infantry, jump pack, fly.

We know what fly does. We can assume what infantry does. We don't know what Jump Pack does.

Do you really think a flying vehicle or fmc won't have some other keyword besides fly?

I will be really shocked if a dakkajet isn't vehicle, aircraft (or airborne or some crap), fly

with aircraft giving it specific permissions for what can and cannot assault it.

Fly is not enough, Fly is all over the place and just says how it treats other models in movement (and that disengaging thing). It will be the fact that the actual flying units are not just vehicles or MC that will set them apart.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.
