I've been reading through the rule leaks and may have missed this, but do we know if troops play a roll in missions objectives?

I'm interested in using the vanguard detachment and actually not using any troops. I'm wondering if I will suffer in the missions because of this.

I don't think this is really a rules question. You might want to ask on the 8th thread.

That is fantastic news - often I would need to butcher a cool theme I had in mind in order to fit in enough troop choices.

worth noting that each objective is scored by the player with more models within 3", so high-model count units may have a slight edge there

Infantry needed a buff. With pretty much only them getting cover and scoring - they did

If two grots can hold off Rowboat Girlyman until the game ends, or summon the guts to actually CHARGE TOWARDS something like that, they deserve the win

I like to visualize one kicking him in the nuts, while the other grabs the objective and legs it...

Of course neither of those is neccessary for them to win the game

In game rules this is true. In fluff / 'forge the narrative TM' terms however...

There is a certain amount of abstraction and absurdity in this game, and i'm ok with that

The way I see it, the "most models within 3" of the objective" thing is essentially 8th's equivalent of ObSec, given that Troops will tend to be more numerous than units from any of the other Force Org slots.

The other thing Troops seem to have going for them in 8th is that the Detachments with compulsory Troops give you more bonus CPs than the others.
