Me and my bro got to play a demo game of the starter box in our local store, fighting with Primaris vs Death Guard. I know the rules have been leaked online for a while, but it was cool to play a proper official game.

Gotta say, the new rules are really fun. To me, it feels like they've taken out all of the tedious stuff that caused fights and just made it fun but still tactical. Strength and Toughness still work. I have been playing AoS for a while, as the bloat of 7th killed 40k for me, and I'm used to the new rules of having a set To-Hit and To-Wound. But I actually thought that the new simplified wound table was really easy to use and added tactical depth.

This edition has really brought me back. Way more fun than 7th, taking a lot from AoS but I think actually making it better in a few ways.

Charging units attacking first, no random dice roll to see who's turn it is, shooting in melee with only pistols, and only to the closest unit, etc. All really nice rules.

Sorry to sound like an advertisement haha but I'm just very impressed. Add that to how cheap the books are and I can see a lot of new people coming in to play, even people who used to play like me but couldn't get through the bloat of required books and crazy amounts of special rules. Also, in the flesh, the Primaris Marines and Death Guard are both BEAUTIFUL collections of figures. AoS quality. The marines have been upscaled but, seeing as the pox walkers are still strolling around on 25mm bases, I don't think they're upping everything. Just the marines to make them look cooler.

So yeah, very cool.

I have played with my Tau's against a friends orks. I bringed all the OP stuff to the table to try how it worked. Crisis spam, Broadsides with HYMP, a Riptide, etc...

My friend just bringed to the table hordes and hordes of boys with Ghaz Kul Thraka, Kommandoz and Deff Dreads, and some other things.

And actually... I loose! i just didn't had the firepower to kill all of his green horde, but at the end of the game like only 20 orks counting boys and some elites and a Mekboyz and 2 crisis and 3 firewarriors remained.

Very fast, fun and balanced.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

but how many turns did it take??

I worry that the game is now over by turn 3. I would miss maneuvering and other tactical nuances if the game is too fast paced.

I finished both my games by Turn 6 today, and we both had about 200-300ish points left by the endgame (these were 1000pts games, against 2 different opponents). Much more tactical, and I've found Melee to be much better than before, rivaling shooting in power. The new deployment types are a fun new addition too, my new favourite being the 18" circle in the middle and deploying in the corners - made for good firing lanes and a close fight in the middle over a relic.

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

We ended at turn 6. The table had a good ammount of LOS blocking terrain, that helped, because the first two turns we had little shooting.

It's really cool to hear games lasting the full amount of turns.
My game in the store was only small, my bro controlling 2 units of 5 Intercessors and a captain and I controlled a unit of 7 plague marines and 20 poxwalkers. I had to hold an objective by turn 4. Lasted for the full 4 turns and we still had a couple of figures on the board. I was stupid and charged my guys in and didn't stay on the objective, just for lolz. We wanted to see what a big melee was like.
It's awesome to hear about the games being more balanced too. Just gets me more pumped to play! 2 weeks is too far away... (I want dem figures from the starter set)
