Wanted to post incase anyone else is in my situation. I just preordered the FW chaos index for 8th, but after I ordered I noticed in the picture of the ToC they included there is no entry for any Demon Knights of Chaos.

I ordered the book hastily just to get this dataslate. Guess we are supposed to just run renegade knights from the regular Gw book instead.

Not impressed!

Haven't preordered yet but I'm disappointed the FW Knights aren't in the imperial book. I just got my Atrapos painted, now I have to wait longer to use it.

That's disappointing. I like the renegades but the Chaos Knights actually had advantages to dedicating them to their God

Also not seeing chaos superheavy tanks

Fingers cross you can still give them the right keywords to take in a chaos army.

Well the fw stuff won't be in the indices and they've said that for a while, they'll be put up instead for free. Probably somewhere on the fw site.

The physical books yes, not the digital datasheets which they've mentioned get released on the 13th in at least one of the community posts if I remember right.

Edit: I looked it up, my bad it's the core rules instead.

Well we don't know that the traitor knights can't be dedicated to a god or become daemon engines. There's a ton of new units in the new version of IA13, maybe the existing units changed quite a bit too.

Datasheets also on order, a pittance cheaper but not free

It's not a new version of IA13. Just has the same cover art.

Index: Xenos (FW) for example has the Doom of Mymeara cover. The contents are different still (there is no T'au in Doom of Mymeara, nor Necrons for example).

Just saying so someone won't misguidedly think it is a revised version of IA13. It's Index: Forces of Chaos. It's own book.

Fine then, call it the spiritual successor to IA13. For all intents and purposes it's IA13 updated for 8th edition with a new name. Except for renegades which got moved to "not-siege-of-vraks".

Hmm no, it is not. It's contents are different, as are all the rest of the books, and it is it's own book, as is the Xenos one aswell. It also doesn't include the campaigns and fluff the IA did, same for the other books.

There is no Mymeara campaign content and fluff in the Index: Xenos.

So what remains is... partially same units, and a cover art.

it's worth noting that there is a page or two of "additional rules" FW may have just put rules for marked renegade knights in it. granted chaos marks don't seem to mean anything right now so...

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I'm confident that being able to now take all of the forgeworld made knights is going to make up for that. Even counting the chaos knight as four different knights we still came out ahead in unit count. Besides, it isn't like the chaos knight added much other than a close combat invuln save. Everything else they got wasn't that powerful.

Except they got the Daemon rule, which opened up the can o' worms that is invisble chaos knights with a 2++ invul re-rolling 1s (depending who you ask).

It is true that with all the other changes the demon Knight rules don't really have a place. I liked the flavour of my Khorne Knight getting a few more attacks and better stomp counts, but really the point of the demon Knight was to combine with cursed earth or grimoire.

I hoped they'd keep the flavour rules as I worked pretty hard on the Fw model, but what can you do.
