Hello Everyone,

I am about to start painting my Raven Guard but don't have any idea of the type of bases for them. What do you guys think about using lava bases? Would this be too much black? I prefer just buying resin bases as I get tired of the mess in making my own. If you guys have a better idea on a type of base theme to use, let me know and post some pictures or link!

Thanks!

I think volcanic bases would be good since although there is a fair bit of black, I believe the bright reds, oranges and yellows you'd expect from lava to provide a nice contrast to the black. This is also a good choice since a volcanic base would be great for representing Istvaan V after the Traitor Legions' bombardment.
For an easy DIY volcanic base, I believe this will be useful. I'm doing it for my Grey Knights and I have to say it looks great, so I highly recommend this method.

A lot of khorne marines and daemons (The Prophets of The Red River)
around 2500 points of Grey Knights (The 3rd Brotherhood "The Heralds of the Emperor Resplendent")

Look into Secret Weapons bases. They have some really cool ones you can get. I'm a fan of the "Blasted Wetlands" bases.

Dunno if i like the idea of a Lava base if its only a few cracks with orange poping out but a very bombastic one with tons of color would look really good.

Too much black is boring ya know? gotta find a way of getting a good deal of contrast into it. other option is a radiated waste land with slime pools in green. or purple for a more daemonic thing.

other option is urban using the GW plastic stuff and rusting it out like crazy for a orangeee base.

Was thinking a brown land on top with the lava bases. Thoughts?

I like the idea of the depth provided by something like a lava base, with the image of fissures in the earth and your Raven Guard bounding over them into the fray. A dark brown could work well.

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.
