Here's the list:

Battalion

Swarmlord

Hive Tyrant
- Monstrous Scything Talons
- Prehensile Pincer Tail

20 Genestealers
- Rending Claws

20 Genestealers
- Rending Claws

3 Tyranid Warriors
- 3 Scything Talons
- 3 Devourers

Trygon
- Massive Scything Talons
- Bio-electric pulse
- Toxinspike

Trygon
- Massive Scything Talons
- Bio-electric pulse
- Toxinspike

Spearhead

Old One Eye

Carnifex
- Two Pairs Monstrous Scything Talons
- Thresher Scythe

Carnifex
- Two Pairs Monstrous Scything Talons
- Thresher Scythe

Exocrine
- Bio-plasmic Cannon
- Powerful Limbs

Total Points: 1,970
Total Command Points: 7

General game plan:

Deployment has the Exocrine sitting back with the Warriors out synapse. Swarmlord, Tyrant, and Carnifexes (with One Eye) make a line in front of them. Trygons and Genestealers don't deploy.

First turn, everything currently deployed except for Excorine, and Warriors moves and advances, end of movement Trygons pop up as close as possible to enemy and deploy Genestealers the same. Shooting, Exocrine focus fires vehicles/big things while Trygons hit Infantry. Swarmlord uses command ability on Tyrant to position for first turn charge.

Ideally, Turn 1 sees Genestealers, Trygons, and a Tyrant hit enemy lines. The bugs just keep on eating from there

Right now my list sits at 1,970, any thoughts on where I should allocate the 30 remaining points?

ETA: correct points and revised strategy

Your list is about 500 points too much and genestealer cannot have ag

And you have 6 command point, not 8

You're right on the adrenal glands, just went back and edited that.

If we're looking at the same materials though, my points and command points are correct. I added points to the units listed, as for command points I get 3 base, add 3 for battalion, add 1 for each spearhead. 3+3+1+1=8

Am I missing something?

Why the venomthropes? They don't help the monsters. They'd only help the Warriors and Genestealers and the Genestealers might never be close enough.

Command points look fine to me, didnt realize you get 3 base either, but checked and for sure you do.

You're points are all wrong because you haven't added any of the wargear. For example each exocrine is about 220 pts with its gear. 20 genestealers are 240 points as you need to pay 2pts each for rending claws.

Ah, thats the key thing I was missing. I assumed the base points covered standard equipment, but reading it closer what you're saying is right. Thanks for pointing it out.

Yup. Another case of me bringing 7th assumptions into 8th. Didn't realize they wouldn't help monsters. I'm going to drop them and redo my points this afternoon.

One quick question on this, do you need to add points for wargear on unique characters like Swarmlord and Old One Eye? EDIT: NVM, points for wargear are included for uniques, found it myself

No, special characters have their wargear included in their costs. Everything else has to pay for their wargear.

Ok, I've edited the first post to reflect correct point values and units. Right now I'm sitting at 1,970 points. Would love suggestions on where to allocate the remaining 30.

Maybe point out what your tyrant and warriors are carrying as they are prime candidates for 30 point upgrades. I'd also look at dropping the genestealers to 15 points and try to get some tyrant guard for your swarm lord to soak up heavy fire as he can be picked out.

Ok added the wargear in there.

I'm conflicted on dropping the Genestealers to 15, that seems like it would reduce the buffer quite a bit and I'm guessing with the fact that they're going to be dropped in such close proximity they (and Trygons) will be target number 1 early game. Do you think people will be sniping Swarmlord out with so many other threats in their face turn 1? Honestly asking, not being snarky.

Swarmy is your big force multiplier so if an army had a devestator unit with 4 lascannons/or similar you would expect swarmy to be making a ton of invul saves. With 10 wounds, no protection and a 5++ he is going to be relatively easy to take down. sure you are in their face with trygons and stealers but I would feed you fodder units and protect my big guns from that 1st turn pop up best I could. I found that against most units 20 genestealers tended to be a little over kill. In this stage it is still early as 8th isn't technically out so a lot of trial and error lists are going to be needed. Also, odds are you aren't going to be going 1st most games so swarmy needs to be able to take a 1st turn outburst of shooting as your trygons and stealers aren't on the board yet.

He only has 8 units to deploy, against most armies he will be going first.

I was kind of hoping this would be the case, though admittedly I don't really know what an "average" number of deployed units looks like at this point.

Assuming I don't drop any of the units/sizes, any other thoughts on where that 30 points could best be spent for upgrades? First thoughts might be giving the Warriors a Venom Cannon then throwing Adrenal Glands on the Trygons, but I'm not sure if that'd be best.

Adrenal glands are something I suggest in basically everything, the +1 to advance and charge is always useful.
