Unless they treat it more like the supplements from 6th+ where it's just a bunch of new rules for UM while giving variants or something.
Say that C:UM (UM and Successors or even just UM) and C:SM (containing the rules for the other Founding Chapters and their Successors) come out at the exact same time. C:UM has literally every unit (outside special characters) that C:SM has, plus a bunch of exclusive kits of their own, but C:SM has nothing that C:UM does not. If you don't think that is going to rightfully irritate a few Non-UM players, then I have a bridge to sell you.

you missed my earlier point I suspect. if Ultramarines get split off into their own thing it'll almost certainly be to make room for other chapters to get love/units in the vanilla codex.

Which I would be totally fine with. I don't need no Smurfs clogging up my Codex!

well yeah, page count for space marines HAS to be getting to be an issue, Codex Space Marines for 7th edition chocked in at a meaty 200 pages. most of my other codexes are around half that.

Separate codex that includes Ultramarines and unique non marine armies of Ultramar yes please.

It makes no sense financially to split up the Chapters into separate codicies. It's basically five times the work for the same volume of sales for a combined Chapters codex. Also, that is five other codicies to smash into the release schedule which will compete with other faction codicies. More than likely, it will be an Ultramarines Codex and the and Alsorans codex. I am pretty certain Ultramarines will release first. So it just becomes more time where you are better off playing Ultramarines than any other Chapter.

To be fair, it may work the same with the Wolves.
After all, no-one shares a codex with them - maybe some people are very glad they don't have anything to do with the Wolfy Wolf Wolfkin Marines.

True some people do have low levels of testosterone and just can't handle a life of hard drinking and adventures worthy of a saga.

Pity them for they'll never grow a decent beard or kidnap the woman of their dreams after slaughtering her brothers, but we can't all be alphas someone's got to be the beta.

I'm just saying, but as much as people like to hate on the Smurfs, the Wolfy Wolves are, at least to me, just as egregious when it comes down to it.

It might be worth noting, but way back when, I do vaguely remember GW outright saying something along the lines of "we have a Big Four of Space Marine Chapters - those being the Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Blood Angels, and Ultramarines." Flashfoward to current day, and three of those four have their own codexes. The Ultramarines, on the other hand, were supposed to represent the "standard" Chapters. However, it's very hard to represent normality and still be one of the "Big Four". So, perhaps a new codex might expand on that.

However, for anyone still saying "why are the Ultramarines poster boys?", someone had to be. GW just happened to make it them, and I think they said words to that effect too.

Well I guess Ultramarines are their own faction now according to the tabs on their website. I was in need of a few more Iron Hands upgrade kits. But GW isn't getting any more of my money with upgrades. Might just focus on Horus Heresy where other Chapters actually matter a little.

Yeah. I did. That is my bad. I just saw a post on Faeit today. I thought the initial post was a rumor thing.

You'd think it might have the opposite effect but when Space Wolves started riding around on actual space wolves I couldn't take them seriously anymore

If Ultramarines being their own faction means they will receive a tactical kit of Roman-like Space Marines I'm all aboard.

Just use heresy models mk iv works fine along mkvii.

Or if not that there are plenty of places outside gw to get bits for conversion.

Isn't that effectively what happens when you use the Upgrade Sprue on them? The Sergeant gets the tabard, a helmet with a crest, a back icon, and a gladius power sword. Everyone else gets pauldrons. Besides, it isn't like every single SM kit isn't an Ultramarines kit in the first place.

Yeah, not every faction can get away with the highest level of plot armor that the Space Wolves have.

I want all of my ultramarines to have crests! But that gets pricy... just like having all of my dark angels with Winged helmets or hoods... and I suck with Greenstuff

Well, not really, no.

There's just as much custom IF imagery on a SM Tactical kit as there is UM.

5/6 sides of every SM kit are Ultramarines. The back face has other chapters, but nowhere near the same as every other face.

That's just the paint scheme. GW just chose the Ultramarines to represent the "basic" colours of regular kits. By having a single uniform chosen, when displayed on the shelves, they look more coherent.

As a kit though, there's nothing inherently Ultramarine-ish about the kits.
I mean, you can complain that GW chose to depict them in Ultramarines colours, but the kits themselves are neutral.

My point was, how the hell do they make a UM Tactical Squad or whatever when literally every kit is already a UM kit by the box art?

It's not an Ultramarine kit.
It's a Space Marine kit painted in Ultramarines colours.

They might not make a UM Tactical Squad kit, like how the Dark Angels use the same Tactical Squad kit as the regular C: SM do.
