They have the following at a very low pts per model cost:

4++ save
Smite on a 5+ roll
10 wounds for 20pts
Objective Secured

Take 300 of these and tarpit/clog the board to the extreme.

I am reading this correctly, am I right? Seems a bit too good to be true

The wounds and save are great, but the damage output is pitiful, with a 1 in 3 chance of even doing anything and even then only a few wounds.

I mean you could conscript spam them, but I have no idea why you would.

@changemod; their damage output for their durability and price is nuts.

300 of them is 600 points; barely 1/4th of your standard 2000 points list.

The enemy will drown in flame and invulnerable saves - and that's before the rest of your army gets to them.

@Vache Glace; yeah, they seem nuts this edition. When serious competitive lists start to pop up, I feel this units will be a big part of them.

It's a 1 in 3 chance for a unit to do D3 wounds, or D3 wounds per 60 points. Situationally that's not awful against things with good invulnerable saves but even then that D3 is a one in three chance of killing one Necron wraith.

Conscripts have great damage output in large blobs, brimstone horrors are just infuriatingly hard to kill.

They have T2, Lasguns wound them on 3s, bolters wound them on 2s. They also have no way to mitigate their leadership except for a 200 point model. A 10 man squad of SM rapid firing will put enough wounds to force a morale test that can be failed, and that's without support. Not to mention every time you cast a spell with them you lose 1 model. They are not as good as you think.

Actually, they're still T3. Ten rapid-firing marines get 20 shots, 13.3 hits, 8.4 wounds, 4.2 unsaved and maybe one dead horror to morale. Not that great a showing from the marines...

As for suffering a Wound, if I were interested in min-maxing these guys, I would put a single Blue Horror in there as the model from which Smite is cast. 3 more points to prevent losing models over time.

I admit, a single squad isn't great, but it's a fantastic way to flood the field and claim objectives while still doing something. The biggest issue will be just getting enough Troop slots to field them all...
