Subject: deep strike 9'' surprisingly easy to mitigate

This might be obvious to a lot of you, but didn't strike me until I was playing around with some deployment configurations today. With the 9'' distance away that deep striking units must adhere to, it's actually pretty easy to put a bubble around your sensitive units ie. devastators, tfc's, etc.
As long as they're 9'' from one edge of the table (or better yet the corner), all you have to do is put a unit 18'' ahead of them, to the one side of them and behind them to put a massive zone in which you opponent can't deep strike and charge that unit. It's actually pretty easy to accomplish this without even trying that hard, especially if you throw a long range tank behind them or something. Then if they do deep strike, your (hopefully cheap) unit that was placing the protective zone on them can fall back if it survives and the devastators or whatever can lay into them next turn.
Puts a damper on the excitement behind my VV's, but is a solid benefit to the survivability of Devastators when facing these kinds of units.

Yep, that's why oh can't go all in on deep strike units without a solid way to break the bubble wrap.

well by turn three I've hopefully made up my points with my devastators Automatically Appended Next Post: Azoqu wrote:My Heldrake will thank you for the giant zone to land in.
ha yeah, this strategy only works against deep striking units. But can be modified to defend against different lists by placing your interceptors there or whathaveyou

I think a good use for DS is a more defensive one. I.e. when you see Wulfen/Thunderwolves/Berserkers or other nasty melee units heading for your troops, drop a line of terminators with a librarian in front of them. Blast them with 16 bolter, 6 assault cannon and 2 combi-plasma shots, Smite them and cast Veil of Time on the Termis.

As i've been messing with genestealer cult for abit. I'll say a few things on this.
1. It dpends on who is ambushing. one of the assasins only has a 6" restriction.
2. if i'm deep striking mid range shooting or squishy but powerful shooting (like devastators) i don't really care to get all that close.
3. Genestealer cult on ambushes of 5's and 6's can get really close, on a 6 they do a whole move in which case they are one you. While charge rolls can be partially rerolled with command.
Screens are actualy realy good at deep strike counters. Scouts and stealth suits being some of the best as they can only really be counted by similarly scouting models.
