I...well, the heavy bolter looks...not splendid. Now that's unfinished obviously. I think the shouler pad trim is fine, but the heavy bolter casing is going to take some work to look not-hideous.

yeah i'm thinking regardless of what happens on the shoulder trim those are getting redone traditional black or red.

Definitely throw a wash on that heavy bolter; traditional blue trim would be my vote otherwise.

Generally thin paints and more layers. Especially for tough colours like white.
Also IMO the base colour is tad too dark. Feels more like crimson fist than ultramarines. Maybe just me.

Crimson Fists are 10x more interesting than Ultramarines, but it depends on what you want to use in your list (i.e. do you want special Tyranid War Veterans or do you want to run Guilliman, etc.).
PS: Paint your Ultramarines whatever blue you want - I don't like the basic Ultramarine scheme so seeing darker blues makes me happy.
