Subject: Going the extra mile: "naming" my Death Korps

So I'm slowly building up my Death Korps using Anvil Industry models. Some people name their commanders. Some name sergeants if they do something heroic. Me? Well I have too much spare time. I give you the system I came up for "naming" some Kriegers.
Here's an example serial number: 5010101I101W
Now let's split that up: 501/01/01/I1/01/W
Let's dissect it a bit. The first number is the regiment, in this case the 501st Siege Regiment. The second is the company number, in this case the 1st company of the regiment. The next one is the platoon, here the 1st platoon in the company. The letter followed by a number is the squad, here the 1st Infantry squad. The next is the Guardsman's position in the squad (not sure about the necessity of this) and the final letter is the Guardsman's rank, here being Watchmaster.
Now let's look at the different format for assets not attached to a platoon: 501/01/G1/01/W
This one just skips the platoon number, instead going from company to squad (1st Grenadier squad attached to the 1st company).
Now for the other bits:
Ranks:
W-Watchmaster
G-Guardsman
S-Senior Guardsman
L-Lieutenant
V-Veteran (covers Grenadiers and Command Squad members)
E-Engineer
A-Artillery crew
Squad Prefixes
G-Grenadier
E-Engineer
C-Command
I-Infantry
R-Death Rider

I like the fact that this is where you weren't sure if it was needed. None of this is needed, other than to satisfy your own desires, but this is where you flagged. Of course it's needed. Without it, how would the Guardsman know his position in the squad? Where would he be without structure.

I'm using Death Korps for my Shadow Wars kill team... I've given them all actual names. The Anvil Ind kits work really well for conversions btw - I used their sniper rifles, shotguns, arms, and extra little bits (scopes, "red dot", etc) along with the FW models.
Wish I actually did ALL Anvil Ind though because the FW models are a huge pain.
Anyway cool idea, thanks for sharing! ...I do intend to add a unit and HQ to fight along side my Space Marine army eventually.

The company commander will probably be the only guy with a name.
I'm currently trying to figure out how to get these numbers on the models. I tried my label maker but it prints too big.

It's funny this dilemma, because I had wanted to put a "22" on the shoulder of my kill team, but I couldn't find a good transfer sheet. There was an old mechanicum (I think?) sheet that I found on ebay really expensive. I started to look to military model game decals... you might want to start there.

I have a naming scheme similar to that for my collection of army builder lists over the years.
