18 points each, 5 models, Elite slot, power level 6.
Legion Seeker squad
They have common marine stats but some special equipment and abilities:

Camo gear: gain +2 save for cover instead of +1.
Vanguard: can move 6" right before the first game round begins.

Armed with Bolt pistols, grenades and Stalker boltguns
- Sniper 24" S4 Rapid fire, can target characters even if they are not the closest enemy unit
- Banestrike 18" S4 Rapid fire, each '6' to wound has Ap -3.
One model is Champion with access to the champion equipment list, Ld 8 and 2 attacks.

These are basically Chaos scouts/deathmarks
Unlike other snipers they don't do mortal wounds on '6's.

Our Sorcerers are snipers now.

If I had to consider something.

Chaos Champion
WS2+ BS3+

Gives off a weird but not entirely useless aura (+1 charge range, or 1 extra attack on a roll of 6) in a 3" aura.

Champion of Chaos; This model must charge the closest enemy unit with the Character keyword, he can also move directly through enemy units, however if he does any unit he passes through may over watch against him even if he does not choose them as a target

I do like the idea of the seek and destroy champion.

I think if you want real snipers, maybe a Night Lords special unit could be a characterful way to do it.

We can only have one Infernal gaze per turn in the entire army, right? And it does 0-3 wounds at 18".
Using a 150+ pt sorc to kill a single 31 pt commissar through 2 turns does not seem like a great way of dealing with enemy characters to me.

I never said it was good I said it was what they gave us.

the easiest fix is to add Sniper Rifle to the "Heavy Weapons" list. 5-7 points each. There you go.

Or if that would be too much, just give Chosens the option to take up to 4 sniper rifles at the abovementioned cost.

I always thought a Range Focused Unit in a similar vein to Warp Talons, Daemonically altered Legion Seekers, would be cool. Rather than bursting through the warp, they Infiltrate like Ghosts fading into reality.

Someone should get a psyker power that moves enemy characters out of position so you can shoot at them. Chaos or Nids would both be good factions for that.

I don't like just giving every faction snipers, but every faction should have some way of dealing with characters.

Probelm with that is the armies it would suit dont need it. Mostly Nids, and the army that could use it would make it unfluffy.

I think a cool one could have been the blood slaughterer's harpoon thingy, but allow it to snipe and instead of just increasing charge range, it pulls the character to it.

Think you are safe hide behind your grunts? Get over here!*

I don't think psychic powers can target characters which aren't the closest unit either, haven't seen the wording for the spell though

"That's how a Luna Wolf fights."
"If you can't keep up, go and join the Death Guard"
"It had often been said that Space Marines knew no fear, but when Angron charged, he ran"
