So day one and we "officially" have all of the 8th Edition army lists. Now personally I've only been through the 2 Imperial books so after my comments I'd love to hear from those who have thoughts on the Xenos and chaos books as well as other Imperials.

Now these aren't big changes, we really need to let the rules run a little before that. These are more small adjustments I'd hope to see once the main codexes start to come out. So here we go.

Space Marines.

All Marines (BA. DA and SW) to have access to Terminator and Jump Pack Versions of Company Champions, Apothecaries and Ancients. My reasoning for this is there are other Legion Blood lines where these would make sense. Raven Guard Jump Pack characters, Imperial Fist Terminators etc. For the same reason I would hope to have Company veterans with Jump Packs for all.

Dark Angel Successors gain access to Captains on bikes (as they can no longer use Sammael as a count as) and any other basic character choices that are in the same position.

Techmarines - add a rule where servitors help improve their repair ability (and similar for Tech Priest Engineers) as currently Servitors seem to only be there as a cheap elite choice. Maybe 2 with servo arms gives a reroll to the D3 roll, 3 roll 2 D3 an pick the highest and 4 Roll 2 D3, may re roll one, and pick the highest)

All Rhino based tanks and Non Character Dreadnoughts gain the Vehicle Squadron rule (as per Imperial Guard). Personally I'd be more then happy to see Tau Devilfish based tanks, eldar Falcon based tanks etc (Ork, Necrons, Dark Eldar what would your equivalent base vehicle be?)

FInally, each unit of Centurions and Terminators allows 1 Land Raider to be taken as a transports (Chaos being Terminators and Obliterators/Mutilators for similar)

Index Imperial 2

Imperial Guard

Move Platoon Commanders and Standard Commissars to HQ choices (the biggest force shot gap, and Elites are a little crowed)

Custodes and Sisters of Silence - allow Forge World to produce full codexes for both faction (with all the new units) where the basic units count as troop choices if they are in a pure Custode or Sisters detachment.

What do people think? What other simple changes would you like to see (not new units or fundamental changes) Thanks

The basic rules are freely available for 8th. Will the warscrolls aka dataslates also be made available via free download or do we have to buy the books?

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

no problem, that said the rules for each unit will be in the boxes as well (sans points costs I expect) that said, I'd be leery of buying older stuff for the rules, chances are a box of tac marines, say, will have the 7th ed rules in em for the time being

I'd expect the actual codexes to have drastic changes to come. Currently the Indexes are just a stopgap to give the units rules for the new edition and some semblance of it's old playstyle (only SOME, I know Dreadpod people will come out of the woodwork saying how that's no longer a thing.).

I'd expect a full armory, Relics section, Chapter tactics-esque rules for most of the factions (at least space marines, chaos marines, daemons for their gods, and eldar. Hoping for something for IG and Orks, but not likely) as well as further bonuses for remaining "pure", like giving stratagems that can only affect "Blood Angels" or something.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Now that all the units in the game have rules via the various Indexes, as well as units having their rules come packaged with them, I don't think we will be seeing Codexes in the form that we have known before.

The Codexes we can expect to see will probably be smaller, and more focused on adding to what has already been put forth in the indexes. Not just stuff like Reliquaries and extra psychic powers, but also the sort of things that you would previously find in Supplements: Missions, Warlord Traits, new Tactical Objectives, and possibly variations on the existing kinds of Detachments that use units specific to each faction Keyword.

I like the idea of new Strategems that can only affect models with certain Keywords. That would go a long way toward incentivizing models with multiple Keywords in common within a Detachment.
