Well, with the new 8th addition comes the chance to play again but also the chance to manage my collections,wich i wish i didnt have too but i dont think keeping them is a good ideai think ill keep my imperial guard because its my biggest and with the new rules look to be pretty powerful. orks are also safe they were the last army i was working on and i have plans for custom vehicles and hot rod trukks. that leaves chaos marines and space wolves, chaos is ready to go and doesnt look too bad but the space wolves dont look so hot. my question is do i put the broken models back together or tr to sell the army as is?

Fixed is likely - in general - to fetch more. A box of broken figures is a joblot for conversions, not an army (even if it IS an army) and I would pay accordingly.

Is your priority to make as much money as possible, or to just get the stuff off your hands?

To the OP - look through the models and quickly sort them into ones that are actually broken vs ones that just came apart at the joins - head/weapon fell off, base broke off etc. Just mention in the ad that the remaining models require some reassembly. Most people don't have a big issue doing that since they would have had to build a new model from scratch anyway. Ensure that all pieces are accounted for and bagged up safely. Take everything that's truly broken and throw it in a bitz bag that just gets added to the lot as a bonus.

Im wanting to get the most money out of these armies,that and im tired of them sitting around collecting dust,from what ive heard painted armies are not doing well in sells,witch sucks..i think ill put them back together though, now pricing on the other hand might be a problem thought, i got a feeling that what i think is a good deal is not what everyone else think is a good deal.

Probably correct. Anything that isn't NIB is borderline worthless for most people (unless you're a top-tier painter, and you almost certainly aren't), and damage only makes it worse. If you can get 10% of MSRP you should probably be content with the offer, and even that might be optimistic.

Check ebay for comparable lots. I think you'll be surprised what stuff sells for. The reality is that 1500 point, partially painted lots don't sell for a lot. They sell for something though, so don't assume you'll get pennies, but you'll be getting probably under a third of what you paid if you put everything in a single box.

You can get rid of the army quickly, or you can maximize the price you get. You simply cannot do both. However, if you want to maximize value, take good pictures, include an inventory, and be honest. If things are broken, say that, but if parts have simply come unglued, that's different.

Ive sold three large armies of mine on ebay that were painted and profited on each by a very decent margin. Each time, I sold them by model/model type individually, with multiple pics of each model in lightboxes. It's a lot of work but its also a lot of money at stake.

The paint doesnt have to be professional, two of the armies (the orange tyranids and daemons) were from when I first started painting and the other Tyranid army was speed painted. But the pictures and presentation matter a lot.

Dont forget though that eBay takes 10%, and you need to be accurate with your shipping estimates, or use eBay's exact shipping calculator that takes the item weight and box sizes and gives the customer their costs based off of their location.
You'll have to invest in the boxes to ship and appropriate packing supplies, but Amazon makes that cheap enough.

I hate to break this to you, but those armies are very nicely painted. That's better than 90% or more of the armies I see on eBay. I'm not sure your experiences are typical.

Im not saying he will have the same profitable experience, but I think selling it piecemeal with good presentation per model will net him the most money, which is what Im trying to convey.

Wanting to make the most money and wanting to get rid of them are almost mutually exclusive. Unless you paint like Zach above.

Zach is right that an almost model by model sale will net you the most profit, but represents the most work. On top of the cost of shipping material, you have to figure the time you're going to spend on taking those pictures and managing the sales.

The last two sales I was referring to I accepted a loss of about 60% or retail value, but both sold in a matter of hours, with minimal time invested in photography. And even if I had taken more time, my painting would have showed through, so might have been a negative point for me.

Strike a balance.
