Just noticed this- as none of the units in IA are covered in index imperium 1 and are not listed for chapters such as Space Wolves or Blood Angels then they by RAW it appears they cannot gain their respective chapter keyword. Is this intentional or is this an oversight and/or I've missed something.

I have a Leviathan Dread I'm itching to use and this has put a bit of a damper on it.

Look at Forgeworld for the Space Marine IA Index for those rules. Not sure how they exactly work. But no doubt armies like SW, BA, DA can use them.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Yep, I'm looking at the rules for the Leviathan Dreadnought right now. The IA index for Space Marines & Chaos are already out. It has the <chapter> keyword, which means you can make it 'Blood Angels', 'Space Wolves', etc. if you want.

Edit: Oh, I see what you're getting at. The indexes for the special chapters specifically list which general SM units they're allowed to include and none of the IA stuff is listed there.

Yeah, that's an issue RAW, but I'm sure anything in the IA book that has the <chapter> keyword is fine to take in any SM army.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?

yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

I have them in front of me.

Index imperium 1 says "The following SM datasheets can be from the SW chapter. Those that do replace the <Chapter> keyword in all instances with Space Wolves. If a SM unit does not appear on the list below*, it cannot be from the SW chapter, and so cannot have the SW faction keyword."

*obviously no IA units are listed as they're not in said book. Now is this list comprehensive as for example, Contemptor Dreads (which are in I-imp1) are not included in the SW list of usable units (despite there quite literally being a SW Contemptor from FW)

In the FW books nothing indicates these are in addition to these lists given in I-imp1 (which also makes a few units unusable, such as Storm Eagles, which cannot transport anything from non codex chapters). Have FW said anything to indicate this is not the case? Or have I missed something in these books?

Nope, the IA book just says:

"This book and its contents are fully compatible with Warhammer 40,000 – Index: Imperium 1and Warhammer 40,000 – Index: Imperium 2, expanding on the range of datasheets to be found there and contain all the information which you will need to field your Forge World models in the new edition of the Warhammer 40,000 game.”

There's nothing else at all alleviating those restrictions from the Imperium 1 index.

The IA: Chaos book has the same problem, no mention of alleviating the restrictions in the base Index:Chaos book.
