Thought I'd give a 2k Death Guard list a go made as cheaply as possible. The bulk of the list is made from Dark Vengeance Marines and 2 Dark Imperium worth of Marines. I had to do a bit of converting to get them all WYSWYG.

Battalion Detachment 1: Typhus and the Destroyer Plague

HQ:

Typhus (Powers - Miasma of Pestilence, Plague Wind & Smite)
x1 Daemon Prince of Nurgle with x2 Malefic Talons & Warp Bolter (Powers - Infernal Gaze & Smite)

Battalion Detachment 2: Necrosius and the Tainted

HQ:

Necrosius (This guys is a ML2 Psyker, 4++, gives Zombies the ability to re-roll 1s for their FnP, gives Tainted Plague Marines +1 to hit) (Powers - Miasma of Pestilence, Gift of Contagion & Smite)
x1 Nurgle Sorcerer with Force Stave & Combi-Plasma (Powers - Prescience, Warptime & Smite)

Troops:

x7 Plague Marines w/ x3 Plasma guns & x1 Powerfist & Icon of Despair
x7 Plague Marines w/ x3 Plasma guns & x1 Powerfist & Icon of Despair
x7 Plague Marines w/ x2 Meltaguns x1 Plasma gun & x1 Powerfist

Elites:

x1 Noxious Blightbringer

Dedicated Transport:

The list works by sticking Typhus with 1 squad of 20 Poxwalkers marching where he needs to be, using them as meat shields. The Daemon Prince does the same with the other 20 man squad. the 2 10 man squads hold back field objectives and generally just be pest.

The Melta squad roll solo in the Melta Rhino, this is pretty much my only Anti-tank.

1 Plasma Squad takes Necrosius while the other takes the Chaos Sorcerer, both take a Noxious Blight Bringer each. With the Icon of Despair stacking with the Blight Bringer they're a pain to be near causing between 2-3 -Ld. They can overcharge the Plasma Guns pretty much whenever they want due to: 1; Necrosius' ability giving nearby Death Guard (Tainted) +1 to hit and 2; The other squad will be buffed by the Dark Hereticus "Prescience" from the Sorcerer.

Totals to 1999 Points and 9 command Points.

If anyone's curious just how cheap you could get this army:

x2 Death Guard halves of Dark Imperium gets you 40 Poxwalkers, 14 Plague Marines, Chaos Sorcerer, x2 Blight Bringers, *Typhus, * Necrosius

x1 Chaos half of Dark Vengeance gets you *20 Poxwalkers, 7 Plague Marines

You could also convert up a Nurgle DP from the Helbrute, Blight Drone or spare Lord of Contagion

Essentially leaving you just the 3 Rhinos to source from elsewhere

The problem I see with Necroius, is the ability you want to boost the plasma plague marines won't work, as it effects The Tainted, not death guard.

Could call one unit of death guard Tainted, but they'd be elites.

Not too much of an issue. I could move a 10 man squad of poxwalkers to the detachment with Necrosius. The Plague Marines would lose the ability to pick up the relic but it's a tiny trade off.
