I need to know when these models were first produced. I believe they were made in metal before the transition over to finecast
|

Not sure on their first release, but yes they were originally in die cast metal. I want to say they came out with 5th or 6th edition but I could be wrong.

Bottom ones came out with Medusa V (iirc) in 2005.
Top ones came out with the 5th ed SM codex 2008ish.

The veterans on the bottom came out in November 2004 with the release of the 4th edition Space Marine codex.

3rd ed style army will mean predominantly metal - with the exception of the first plastic real multi-part tactical kit which came out with the 3rd edition main box (despite the box contents showing older metal models, etc.).

I don't mind using the finecast versions of the old metal characters, since they are easier to obtain and work with. and they are the same sculpts afterall
