Now with 8th edition fully launched and the indexes including FW have been updated to reflect the new rules, I am curious if anyone has seen anything about updated APOC rules. I am wondering how 8th edition APOC will play since the core rules have been slimmed as much as they have been.

There is no Apoc anymore, all models are usable in the base version of the game

I guess all you really need to make apocalypse work is a different mission/deployment. You could probably just write your own.

I would imagine (and hope) that Apocalypse games are just large scale games. The best Apocalypse games I played back in the day were when it was a whole bunch of small armies that were being fielded (based on the classic Force Organization Chart). Lots of Troops, plenty of HQs, and not many Super Heavies were fielded.

I could see a special Detachment being made available for Apocalypse games, but not much beyond that. I could be mistaken though.

Aw man, I liked the silliness of apoc and all of the added nonsense. I guess we will see how that goes bringing the big super heavies into normal games.

Think APOC is where the 'POWER' stuff comes into its own, at that scale who cares if marine #36 has a pistol or not.

The 8th rules seem ideal for that type of game, looking forward to it, just play the game as usual, but with a bigger force - agree a power level and say a maximum number of detachments and run with it

I could definitely see a special Detachment. I think special Missions would be cool, too. Also, certain strategems that have a higher cost but do things that wouldn't work out well in a normal sized game.

Apocalypse seems like the kind of thing where people coordinate and plan well in advance, they're not just random people looking for a pick-up game on a work night.* So I think it would make sense for GW to put out a bunch of optional rules for big games rather than saying "here are the official rules once you hit X points."

*I've played in a number of pick-up games that were Apocalypse sized in terms of points, but they were just a bunch of people with their normal-size armies all playing at the same time. They didn't take that much longer than a regular games, but everyone was being pretty laid back during them.
