I've never played IG, never played DKoK, but I have a small bit of models I've built for Shadow War. Now I'm thinking to add a "Battalion Detachment" to my bolster my Blood Angels.

I have:

An HQ model
A Commissar
2 10man squads of lasgun guys with a few special weapons
1 10man squad of grenadiers
A Leman Russ tank
3 Chimeras
some Death Riders (will need to add a few more to make a full unit but I intend to).

Where do I begin from here? - thanks!

Now we are talking. I am a Chaos player through and through but when I dabble with IG it is always DKoK.

From the minis you have listed I think you have a solid 'core'. You will need more guardsmen though and DKoK are all about the artillery.

Your best bet though will be to wait until FW release the Astra Militarum Index which contains all the rules for DKoK and go from there.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I know you are 100% correct on that last point - I was just hoping to buy the new IA-Index and models at the same time because shipping is ridiculous here haha.

I don't think that would be a wise course of action considering the price of DKoK minis.

I am sure some nefarious individual will place a copy up on the tinterweb but I wholeheartedly do not endorse copyright infringement.

Let your own moral compass be your guide.

You can always get another squad of guardsmen 20 isn't enough even in a DKOK list. Beyond that who knows? Hades drill and engineers can be good or bad. Grenediers could be amazing (but models are oop as the mould needs to be redone). Thudd guns could be worse or better then wyvern. A command tank vanquisher w beast hunter shells and coaxial stubbed could be great or bad. So outside of another squad of guardsmen We don't know. You could wait a few days after release to hear what is good too.

You could probably do well with some artillery

and heavy weapons teams

i dont know what they will do to DKoK but artillery and heavy weapons are probably fairly safe bets.

On moon miranda.

If the new IA index retains the options for Grenadiers as Troops, you can use that to field an MT style DKoK force that has lots of cool potential with a small model count.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Consider picking up the FW Gorgon transport. It comes with a bunch of death Korps molded together that stand inside it, and with a bit of work, bits and greenstuff you can get around 30+ DKs from it.

As a DKoK player myself I'd recommend getting a few more basic troops and maybe some heavy weapons to help bolster what you've got. I'd also recommend artillery too, however since the index comes out in a few days it's probably best to wait and see where the DKoK army is going to be at. I'd avoid grenadiers and siege engineers until we find out if they're going to be troop or elite choices. Unless of course you can get a deal on them.

Also, with the DKoK index coming out, do we even know if its going to cover the seige list and assault brigade? Or just a Standard DKoK. My guess is the latter. That being said. I saw the death rider rules and they look fun. I'll be bring some in my lists. You can't go wrong with infantry as every DKoK list needs them. I'd wait on artillery until the rules show what's been updated. I really hope the gryphon heavy mortar is in it.

I would recommend waiting two days until someone (if nothing else, me, since I've already preordered the digital one) can tell you what seems to be good. Buying from Forge World is expensive enough to warrant some waiting, and others sources are either supporting illegal practices or unreliable.

Siege Engineers were not really good troops before, and the Grenadiers were only okay-ish, but so were the normal infantry too. Heavy Weapons were more or less terrible (just like it's IG counterpart), the Death Riders were decent, the Tanks were nothing stellar and the artillery was what was carrying the entire army.

We have no idea but I suspect that it will be a general army without many special rules, and I guess it will be closer to the Siege Regiment as the Assault Brigade was very dependent on the Forlorn Hope-rule.

edit: I've actually changed my mind. The grenadiers are called Death Korps Grenadier Storm Squad, which was what the Assault Brigades grenadiers were called, since the Siege Regiment ones lacked the Storm in their name, so maybe they are troops. But this is just speculation of course.

When you guys say artillery you mean like Earthshaker?

Going by the current IG index, what would you recommend for good heavy weapons teams? ...specifically thinking to accompany an assaulty Blood Angels detachment.

When I say artillery, I mean the Field Artillery or Heavy Artillery Units, such as this or this.

Mortar Teams are cheap and decent, Lascannons have huge damage output but will most likely die pretty quickly. Heavy Bolters and Autocannons are a maybe. The Heavy Stubber teams DKoK gets instead of Missile Launchers might be good though, as they are twin-linked and six shots at S4 are great if they are cheap enough. Most will probably work with Blood Angels as they seem to be quite close-range centered.

But seriously, wait until someone else or I can tell you about the codex. It might be that we pay far too much for some stuff just like before.
