Am I reading this right? Can normal Space Marine Tactical Squads take a Heavy Flamer now?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

I have the Index Imperium 1, and under the Tactical Squad Dataslate it just says "...May take a heavy weapon".

But the weapon lists are pretty threadbare and don't really label anything as heavy so much as show what has a heavy rule, and highlights heavy weapons in gray etc.

The point is, there's nothing in this book I can find which forbids the use of heavy flamers in tactical squads. Can someone verify if I'm right?

I would really love to use Heavy Flamers in tac squads since I play Salamanders, it would be aces.

no, the heavy weapons are listed near the start, they are Missile launchers, heavy bolters, Grav Cannons, Lascannons and Plasma Cannons, ONLY blood angel tac marines can use a heavy flamer

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Ah found the page, sorry I was using the lists at the back of the book!

Can't confirm this RAW, as I don't have my book yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if all tactical squads can now take heavy flamers, only to get a true Codex in a couple of weeks or months, and having this option taken away again (except for Blood Angels and Salamanders, of course). I have been rebuilding too many miniatures (such as Imperial Guard Sergeants with lasguns, Chaos Terminators with Dragon Ogre bodies through many mutations, SPace Marines with shuriken catapults from the Rogue Trader era, where they had the INT 8 to be able to handle the TL 8 Eldar weaponry, etc.) over the years because the new edition took away options, changed codices, etc.

Edit: ninja'ed to the point of even showing outdated info.

Weird that they wouldn't let Salamanders take heavy flamers if they let the Blood Angels.

I still have the Chapter Approved from 3rd edition that let Salamanders take them along with flamers in Assault Squads which was great.
It did knock their initiative down to 3 through which, in an edition that was dominated by CC, was not ideal.

Right now the whole Chapter Tactics and fancy stuff between them is being regulated to later.
