One of them pertains to certain <keyword> armies and their special units. There is currently a debate in YMDC that even Yakface is getting somewhat beligerent with about taking chaos legion specific cult troops in a non-cult army. We do not know what they mean by "<keyword> Army"; if they mean just a pure-detachment, or a pure army. All we know is that the rules on the <keyword> Army page has certain requirements, allowances, and restrictions; while detachments and battleforged armies have different ones that allow the units and <keywords> from that section to be taken outside of that page's rules.

The rules are perfectly clear; some people are just inventing restrictions that don't exist.
(That being said, Ynnari thing could perhaps use some clarification.)

Oh?

You have a set of rules that tell us exactly what an "Emperor's Children army" means?

Have you shared these with the thread?

No one is inventing restrictions. Or at least I am not.

I am merely noticing specific benefits and an allowance that is not needed(since in the Emperor's Children army example; there is a restriction that all units with the legion keyword must be set to Emperor's Children, and the same section of rules allow for bespoke noise marines as troops, then they have an entry for troops emperor's children noise marines which would make the allowance for elites noise marines with keyword <legion> set to emperor's children).

So something else not actually written must be involved and that sonething must be an intention in the rulrs forthe emperor's children preset troops noise marines are not normally available in a chaos detachment.

It is not about fabricating restrictions it is about looking at what was intended: which is the topic of this thread.

Yakface and others have explained how the rules work in the thread in question, and there's no need to redo it here.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I've noticed that the people having problems with the clarity of 8th are almost all 7th edition players while those of us who are coming back after a break are finding it crystal clear. I think it's previous edition baggage that's causing part of the issue and the rest is largely an attempt to gain advantage in a game. Surely people realize that you can't use a Astra Militarum regiment buff on a Space Marine chapter just because you name them the same thing. That must be intentional "misunderstanding" for advantage.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Of course people know that. Some people like to break the rules as an intellectual exercise, others are trying to gain an advantage. Hard to tell which someone is online.

Sometimes. A lot depends on how they say they will play it, and if anyone pays attention to those statements.

And sometimes, the rules just be plain broke and people need to be warned.

I retract everything I said about those rules being unclear. I took the time to read them fresh and fully; they are actually very clear in their meaning. I've have had a rather busy couple of weeks and when I looked in on that thread then to the "Cult Legion Army" rules I just skimmed the first rule and read the latter 2.

So, yes, I will admit that I did not really read the rules in question and came at it with a previous edition expectation.
