10mm Ogre Mammoth Riders from Black Gate Miniatures

Black Gate Miniatures is back with another Kickstarter campaign to create Mammoth Riders for their Ogre line of miniatures. Their previously successful Kickstarter brought out unarmored and armored Ogre Warriors and Ogre Cannoneers. After receiving this miniatures, I can say that BGM's miniature and casting quality is fantastic, which is why pledging for more Ogre units to complete a Warmaster army.

They're already past the funding goal and have reached the stretch goal for the Character pack - everything a player needs for the (human) meat and potatoes for Ogres!

I have my stretch goals planned out, but only had art created for the Mammoth Riders and first two stretch goals (Characters and Character Mammoth Riders). The reason is pretty simple. I have to pay for the art when it is completed and so I felt confident getting those three pieces commissioned, but didn't think we would be this far along so quickly, and planned on having more time to get the next lot of art work done.

Anyway, it's a nice problem to have and I am working on sorting the Yeti art today.

Also, we are down to less than 20% availability on the "Early Bird Special" and so grab it quick!

What can I say but thank you. Three days in and we have unlocked our third stretch goal.

Say hello to the Yeti....

I think Christian really hit the ball out of the park with these guys. A little taller and leaner than their home loving Ogre brothers, these guys will be a welcome addition to any Ogre army.

And what is the next stretch goal?

£2,500 - Savage Kin. Crazy, bestial, insatiable Ogres.

I will update everyone as soon as I have the art ready!

Black Gate Miniatures wrote:Christian has been working hard, and with only £31 to go to release the Savage Kin, I thought it would be cool to share you were we are up to with them.

I know you are going to love them. I certainly do!

We only have one more stretch goal left for phase 2, the mighty Hill Giant. Then I will have to bring the whole of the phase 3 Kickstarter forwards and include it this phase 2 Kickstarter. Amazing stuff.

Not complaining, just a whole lot of work

Black Gate Miniatures wrote:Wow, things are really moving on now.

After the Yeti yesterday, we now the Savage Kin released. They are available as an add-on for £8 a unit. RRP will be £9 after the Kickstarter finishes.

Next up will be a Hill Giant. The art is in the pipeline, but we are still playing catch up, and the Savage Kin concept art is next to be produced.

So, I will have to use words to describe the Hill Giant. He won't be wearing a bucket on his head and won't be bending the knee in servitude to anyone. This guy is going to look fantastic on the table and will be atleast 32mm to the eye.

Release at £3,000, as an £8 add-on. He will retail at £10 after the Kickstarter.

After this stretch goal, we will be onto the Greenlings!

What an amazing week it has been.

The Kickstarter has moved far more quickly than the first one and delivered a massive boost to the range of Ogre figures that will be available.

I can finally share the Savage Kin art, They funded before the art was released, just like the Yeti.

We are also very, very close to the Hill Giant funding (£41 away at the time of writing).

Christian has again excelled himself and I am happy to be able to share the Hill Giant art.

I love the "Astonished Human", it made me laugh out loud.

Next up will be the Greenlings and then the Greenling Artillery and then we are done. I will finalise the final stretch goal today.

Update #8

Operation Greenling is go!

It's time to try and get the Ogre army list finished and so I am going to roll the remaining stretch goals into one single amount.

If we get to £4,000 then we will unlock both the Greenlings and the Greenling Junk Lobba.

Christian is working on the art but you will have seen some Greenlings starting to appear in the recent pieces.

They will be available for £6 a unit during the Kickstarter as an add-on, with the same price be charged for both the Greenlings and Greenling Junk Lobba, The RRP will be £7.50 each after the Kickstarter ends.

One final push and the army will be complete!

Cheers

Barry

Okay, I'm in.

I can see how my initial $20 investment may increase dramatically, especially if a few more stretch goals are unlocked. There's something particularly characterful about the sculpting style (especially considering they're 10mm) and I couldn't resist.

Do people use these minis for WHFB at a smaller scale, or some other ruleset? It really does seem a smaller scale is better for ranked fantasy, I wish one would catch on!

I'd say to check out Warmaster Revolution, which is a nearly-finished update of Warmaster Fantasy. There's a rules committee that's also almost finished with balanced army lists.

You can also use them for Warband Fantasy by Pendraken, Hordes of the Things, or Kings of War.

True but Warmaster Revolution is where it's at!

I just pledge for this (still some early birds left by the way) after getting most of an Army from Phase 1 so can't wait to get these for a whole force.

RiTides - there's an fairly active FB group (Warmaster (GW)) and Warmaster Podcast if you want to see what's going on and also the Specialist Arms forum although that's less active.

Well worth taking a look at as WR is a really rewarding game.

Good question! Not sure about the mercs, but the next stretch goals are the Hill Giant at £3,000 and the Greenlings likely at £3,500. It wouldn't be impossible for a Junk Launcher at £4,000.

I caught a glimpse of the Hill Giant concept at the weekend and it looks very good.

Barry refused to let on what would be after greenlings but there seems to be a few ideas on the boil at BGM.

@ Hulksmash - re Mercs, how would you see them differ from the previous KS ogre bulls/ironguts/cannoneers?

Probably pick a "region" that's in there game and give the ogres the theme. So it could be viking, desert, far east, pirate, whatever. And then 3 sculpts like normal with one two hand weapons, one hand weapon shield, and one ranged weapon (bow, pistols, crossbow, etc).

We have gone past the £4,000 mark and that means the whole of the Ogre army will be sculpted. I am speechless at how well this has gone.

So now is the time to start giving stuff back to you awesome people who helped make this Kickstarter a success.

First up will be an awesome free character model for everyone who pledges for a minimum of a unit of Mammoth Riders and a Character add-on pack.

The "free" character art.
The "free" character art.

This guy is going to cost me far more than normal to produce, partly due to the incredible art that Christian produced. So the stretch goal is going to be set at £4,300. Things are moving very quickly at the moment and are already on £4,135.

Ogres forever!
