My buddy gets salty at times (like how I literally aced every shot of artillery back in 7th ed, shaved half his army in turn one), but he would NEVER attempt to damage a model of mine, he sometimes hurls the dice, which amuses me to no end).

I don't get too salty about 40k, we play casually and there's a lot of outsmarting and thinking involved, so I never realy feel cheated.

Nice find
Most of those are either dead or don't play 40k. One is accessible, if I can arrange transport. Will have to email them.

Or form their own underground society of maliciousness and emotional instability... Maybe we need them to remind us what happens when we breach the social contract?
From a functionalist standpoint, they may be necessary.

Outside of Warhammer he's usually alright (but will not hear a word against his Ultramarines, or Catholicism for that matter). He's not usually been too bad when playing, apart from the odd time that I wasn't playing an extremely sub-par army (such as CSM and IG in 6e and 7e), when he would get really sulky. Once nearly made him cry by practically solo'ing a 500 point 7e First Company fromation with an Emperor's Champion.
I have a high lose rate, but give me a few bits of cover on the TT and an army that isn't dog poo, and I'll wreck ya.

this goes beyond mearly socially incapable. I've got Asperger's syndrome, so I can certainly emphisies with people who run afoul of weird little social rules, but this guy attempted to break or damage a mini, that's completely unaccpetable. the guy plays 40k so clearly KNOWS how expensive warhammer 40k is, that alone should be eneugh to know "don't break peoples stuff"

It comes from the interpretation that if you're moving someone else's stuff without permission it's like you think you have a right to them. And it feels really off if on their turn they are moving their stuff, and without warning on your turn they assume the role of "Mover" for your stuff.
Also you don't know where their hands have been. Unless it's Doritos. Because of course it was the Doritos.

So your friend is a religous nut who can't handle the realities of life. Explains why his army going from ridiculously OP to balanced has had this effect on him, instead of facing the reality that he's losing to his own shortcomings, he blames the game, and you. Hopeless and you are better off without him to be honest. Pink Horror wrote:ERJAK wrote:You don't touch other peoples models. I spend a lot of time on my army, and too many people playing this game can't even spend time on personal hygiene. I don't mind the odd brush against I'm not pedantic, but if you are unnecessarily handling my models, I'll ask you not to. It's common courtesy and to think that is wierd, I'd say you are the one with a problem, and I'd say you probably don't realise how many people think that of you. Armies are worth literally thousands of dollars, can have a similar amount of work put into them, and are delicate and intricate as hell. Not wanting random people touching them is the opposite of surprising, even if you don't care about your own army like that the fact that you can't empathise with that at all with the fact that others might, that feels extremely disconnnected.

If someone tried to break my models I would be super pissed. Normally I try and be as relaxed as possible but with some people they go over the line and feth gak up too much and I let them know. People almost never see me mad but when I do get mad they get the feth out.
I would be okay with letting my opponent move my models if he is careful.

I try to avoid touching my opponent's models unless they give me permission to. I might ask if they have a really cool model that I want to look at, but otherwise I have a hands off policy. Of course, if someone asks me for help with moving their models I'll do it, like the previous week I was attending a tournament and I got a by, so I helped the Ork player at the tourney set up his Green Tide

Acting like that is bubble wrapping your house when company is over so that they don't touch anything. Matter of fact, it's borderline Autism or mild OCD to be this way. So it's normal not to empathize than it would be to empathize.

You can play through your whole turn in 40k without needing to touch your opponents models, there is no need to touch your opponents models in the game. You move you're own models during movement phase. Later on roll to wound, okay..I rolled 2 wounds and they friggin hit, you failed your saves. My opponent can remove his dead intercessor. If he's too lazy to reach all the way across the table then i'd ask to remove one for him.
There also isn't a need to touch opponents models in X wing, Shadespire, etc. If you accidently bump it or bump models together every now and then its no biggie...that's normal wear and tear of the gaming. When some models have weapons and bits that stick out across their base they are bound to get bumped at some point. The new death guard models have spikes and horns sticking out everywhere.
But when you're playing with someone you haven't known for long at a lgs...it's good manners to not mess with your opponents models too much.
It is a respect thing. Imagine having a friend over, and he walks over into your liquor cabinet and cracks open a previously unopened bottle of fine wine or whisky and helps himself.
If the model is primed macragge blue, nothing else then that is different. You can tell when someone has spent 3 hours on a model compared to a basecoat and a wash. And if you can't figure out when and when not to just pick up and finger peoples figures then that is borderline autism.
