I know it's still early but I'm curious who is the single best close combat model in the game, for a 1 v 1 battle? With the change to Initiative and the rest of the phase how has this changed the order, is abbadon still king?

Warlord Titan probably. Would have little trouble stomping Abaddon into the dirt.

The Primarch kicks the crap out of him, unsurprisingly.

At least he doesn't have amazing supporting auras too!... oh. Oh he does.

I'm assuming OP meant character vs character.

That is correct, yes character vs character

Swarmlord is pretty beastly in CC. Think RG still kicks his bony nid butt though?

Guilliman probably. His 3++, re-roll aura, mortal wound output, attacks, etc make him amazing

I hear that they'll be releasing Ferrus Manus next - he'll be heads above the rest... hur hur

I'm going with Guilliman, until someone releases Fulgrim and his sexy serpentine form - I FULLY expect Fulgrim to be a CC monster that would put Guilliman to shame.

Magnus. For a 1v1. 7 att 2+ reroll 1s. Str 16 is wording most things on 2. Then D6 dmg turning characters into spawn is capable of putting out absurd amounts of damage. He also has 18 wounds with a 4+ reroll 1s.
This means he can survive most things if he doesn't get to hit first.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh and he can also smite if both characters survive.

Not quite 1v1 but Beserkers look like an amazing CC unit for their cost. Cheap enough to spam, normal MEQ durability, buckets of attacks and they can fight twice each phase.

Venerable Dreads seem very good. WS2+, not that costly and good CC weapons

If fluff is any indicator, yes he will really put him to shame

Both Dante, and Mephiston are also fairly impressive for non-Primarch caliber characters.

Mephiston especially, as he's ST:10 all the time with -3 AP and doing D3 damage per wound, T:5 all the time, with a 2+ armor save and the ability to cast a 4++ invulnerable save on himself, has 5 wounds, and can ignore any lost wound, even mortal wounds, on a 5+ thanks to his Lord of Death rule.

He won't take down Guilliman or Magnus on his own, but anything short of a primarch that squares off against him is going to have a rough go of things, especially if Mephiston gets the charge off, which is helped a bit by the slightly better than average 7" movement profile he's sporting.

I hope to have my Mephiston painted soon.

Take it easy.

Avatar is pretty beastly. D6 damage with 5 attacks base and a 3+/5++/5+++ should hold him in the fight for a while.

I think keeper of secrets deserves a mention. Witstealer sword imposes a -1 to attack rolls for any enemy wounded for the rest of the game which can be mixed with symphony of pain for a total of -2, so most go from hitting on a 2+ to a 4+. Hysterical frenzy effectively allows him a second set of attacks each psychic phase as well.

Great unclean one can rely on disgusting resilient plus heal himself with psychic powers and boost his hit roll.

This is on top of both having solid greater demon profiles.

Gonna have to vote for Saint Celestine one this one. She is ludicrously fast (potential 36" charge range), can get 7 attacks on the charge (6+warlord trait), has 2 bullet catchers who can throw down 6 more attacks (weak attacks but still...), has a good save, 7 wounds plus 4 more from the Geminae, and with Faith she can choose to move, shoot, attack twice (12 Str 7 -3 AP damage 2 that hit on 2+!) OR regenerate D3 wounds. One of her bullet catchers auto resurrects each turn and she can come back from the dead once too. She is a murder wagon, in my second game with her she killed Mephiston on the charge from over 2 feet away, took down 3 Terminators, ate a full blast from a Land Raider Crusader, then hopped away and killed 2 primaris Marines and a Razorback before my opponent's conceeded. In my first game she killed about 75 orks and a warboss with a little help from a 140 point squad of Seraphim. She's 250 points fully geared up, but she can rip an army apart in short order and is a massive pain to kill.

I love her more than my own sanity...

Magnus

Roboute

Swarmlord

Irrelevant.

Swarmlord with his Psychic Powers and buff has a theoretical 42" threat range, 7 attacks (8 on the charge with the right WL trait) 4++ in melee, 5+ FnP from Psychic Powers. S8 -3 D6 attacks. The Primarchs are even scarier than this

Don't think any other character is capable of beating Roboute on averages.

Next to all his other stuff, he comes back from the dead on a re-rollable (Stratagem) 4+.

Can he come back from being a Spawn?

(technically, Spawnhood appears to be after Roboute fails to get up.)

Roboute only has 9 wounds to Magnus's 18, and Roboute can only come back once. . . And then it's Spawn time! Plus, if we were being honest, Magnus would be using Psychic powers, in which case it's no contest. There's a chance Guilliman doesn't make it through a single psychic phase, an 8+ on 2D6 lets Magnus dish out 2D6 mortal wounds with Smite.

I think Forge World Greater Daemons can beat Robute. I've killed Robute in 1 vs 1 with Scabeiathrax and Zarakynel, although they cost a lot more than the primarch.

Ork Boyz vs anything not a flyer are disgusting.

116 S4 WS3+ attacks, plus 5 S5 WS3+ attacks from the Nob (or even higher strength if using a Big Choppa or Power Klaw). A LITERAL bucket of dice. And unlike last edition they are always S4 and hit first when charging.

Ripped me a Trygon in half the other day when he derped up a charge roll.

Full strength Genestealers are positively terrifying, moreso with the right backing.
Eventually those claws statistically put everything down, sometimes eventually is the charge turn.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

still king implies abbadon was ever int he top spot. he ahs always been strongish but I don't think he has ever really worn the champion belt /crown definatly a contender though consistently placing well though.

for single model currently magnus and roboute spar on top. the likes of swarmlord, ghaz, trygon prime, mephiston and abbadon are in this weight class. following them up are the vanilla and most the other chaos marine characters

Logan Grimnar is a badass in hand to hand. That said if Space Wolves in general are very effective hand to hand units. However I just played my buddy with his chaos Khorn Berserkers and those guys are nasty hand to hand, case and point they (with daemon prince help) were able to take down a full thunderwolf unit all with storm shields.
