Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me build this list! I am a new player to 40K and own very few models so effectively starting from scratch here.

The advice I have been given is pick a few models you really like and the build an all comers list around them

After buying the base rules and a couple of the army books (inclu the FW imperium one) the models I really want to build a list around are;

1) Fire Raptor Assault Gunship
2) Relic Leviathan Dreadnaught
3) Predator and/or Land Raider

HQ

Vayland Cal (167)
Techmarine (75)

Troops
Scout Squad x5 /w camo cloaks (67)
Scout Squad x5 /w camo cloaks (67)
Scout Squad x5 /w camo cloaks (67)

Elites
Vinidcare Assassin (90)
Culexus Assassin (85)

Heavy Support
Predator /w Twin Lascannon + 2 Lascannons + Storm Bolter (204)
Whirlwind (115)
Relic Leviathan Dreadnaught /w Storm Cannon Array + Grav Flux Bombardment + 2x Heavy Flamer (309)
Relic Leviathan Dreadnaught /w Storm Cannon Array + Grav Flux Bombardment + 2x Heavy Flamer (309)

Flyer
Fire Raptor Assault Gunship /w Twin Avenger Bolt Cannon + Quad Heavy Bolter + Twin Hellstrike Launcher + Twin Lascannon (384)

Work in progress....not sure if this is a legal or viable list yet.

Any help would be so very much appreciated!!

I thought the relic restriction was you need a normal unit of the same type. I.e a normal Heavy Support unit lets you take 1 Relic heavy support unit. I may have read it wrong though.

I was going on advice rather than reading the rules myself haha. You are correct the FW book clearly stats that in a battle forged army you can only take as many relic units as non relic units of the same type. That means I am going to have to revisit my list above!

Thanks for that, much appreciated!

You've got some serious firepower, not sure you'd deal well with fast assault blobs, Cal can easily smash a characters head in with his hammer to stop your super dreads getting bogged down but your actual line is very thin.

Also the fire raptor has 2 quad heavy bolters and 2 twin hellstrike launchers and if you want 2 twin lascannon you have to exchange both the hellstrike launchers for them, haven't looked myself but you might have the cost wrong because of that.

Honestly if it were me i'd take the cost from the fire raptor and stick it in a bunch of razorbacks with twin AC's, you need a unit tax to take dedicated transports but you already have that; yes you aren't having that cool unit, but your army is EXPENSIVE and you're a new player/hobbyist, working with a resin should imho be avoided as much as possible.

Also whilst the assassins are cool not sure what the point in them is, you already have scouts who could take snipers which mitigates damage more by spreading the weapons around and imho the culexus is underwhelming.

I'd do something like:

Vaylund Cal 200 (you forgot the cost of his servo arms and flamer)
Techmarine (again i think you missed his equipment)

3x5 Scouts, Camo and Sniper rifles 270

2 Leviathans as you had them
2 Predators with all Las

3 Razorbacks with Assault cannons and stormbolters

Spend a little more on another HQ and you can have 2 detachments and an extra command point with it, put hunter killer missiles where you can afford them on as many things as possible

Also bare in mind you could quite easily do a more aggressive wave attack style list with these units instead having claws and drills on the leviathans and grabbing different units to back them up

Thank you!

I will have a play around with the list later today and try and incorporate your suggestions. Out of curiosity how would you build the assault list? The dreads exploding on a 5-6 could be devastating in the enemy ranks. One option could be to take one of each?

Any really appreciate your help
